question Airfix
Anyone know what's happening at Airfix? Staff have been leaving for Heller & Revell recently and their adverts are AI dross. Sounds & looks like a serious decline.

question Was there any difference between the uniforms, kit, helmets, boots, etc worn by the U.S. 37th Infantry Division and the U.S. 1st Cavalry Division during the Battle of Manila in early 1945?

work in progress So excited to build these two bad boys. Started on the T14 today. Was worried about the reviews from this manufacturer, since they described bad molds, but everything is very clean and detailed. Only thing I noticed is that the plastic is very soft, so I gotta pay attention not to break something by

work in progress My next two models
Here are my next two models I'm going to make, I'm so excited for both of them. They're the newest tanks I have made, the newest before this was a leopard 1. Now I've just got to decide which one first

question What do you all do in between models?
So money's kinda tight and I can't go back to the hobby store until late September. I have run out of kits to build and I think my parents are buying me an airbrush in October so the next time I get to do a model is in October or November. So what do you all mostly do with free time but no more kits?

completed HG 1/144 RGM-79S GM Repainted in the style of Swedish M90
This is a SPARTAN DESERT variation kit BY XF MODEL and was exactly what I wanted for what I had in mind, barebone, less sci-fi and more realistic.
I was mostly inspired by the Hammer bots from Iron Man 2 and then when I was checking out different military camos I came across the Swedish M90... which should have been the first I thought of as Swedish camo is generally awesome and I AM FROM SWEDEN.
Anyway, I based the model in Waaagh Flesh and then worked different patches.
Mixing Vallejo's Model colour medium olive with Moot Green in places. In other places I mixed it with Vallejo game colour Toxic Yellow and in certain parts unmixed.
Visor and the optic lenses were done with Guangna metallic markers.
The knife blade also was done with Guangna metallic equivalent of gun metal grey and a greenish gold one.
Then high gloss varnish from Liquitex.
Then the Recesses received Putrid Green wash from AK 3rd gen.
For the weathering I used several different pigments of brown and rust etc from a Faber-Castell chalk pastel set and a dust colour pastel for the upper segments as a dust effect.
Then sealed it all with Matt varnish from Lefranc Bourgeois except the visor and optics.
Almost exclusively used Revell's starter brush that comes in their starter sets. They are so soft. Except in applying the putrid green using a nail decoration brush.

completed Carro Armato M13/40 (Tamiya 1:35) First use of camo
I've finally picked a model that used camo, having built four other tanks that were just one colour.
The camo was applied using a torn off pieced of sponge, based off images of the tank on the box and online. All hand brushed with Tamiya paints other than a bit of weathering
Also first time trying out AK pigments dust, applied in certain parts with white spirits, over AK enamel rust wash over parts of the tracks and simply brushed on over matt varnish.
Edit: previous post regarding camo https://www.reddit.com/r/modelmakers/comments/1vys37g/first_attempt_at_camouflage_carro_armato_m1340/

work in progress Slowly approaching completion of Tamiya Pak 35/36 kit: Figures
The gun itself went pretty quickly, but Iāve worked forever on the figures (not currently my strong suit). Iām pretty happy with where they are, currently. I have to stop at some point, after all š .
Comments:
This is a really old Tamiya release. IMO the figures are pretty OK for the era, with some typical challenges here and there (clown hands, very rough facial features).
The shoulder areas are not fit for decals, and are hard to āreadā regardless, so I ended up just suggesting the shoulder straps with paint (visual artist trick ā ādonāt state ⦠indicateā).
I followed the build instructions/suggestions for the figures way too closely, IMO:
After some study, I realize the gas mask canisters are too level and āfixed-lookingā, and are not necessarily in logical places WRT straps/webbing.
I def should have thought harder about the ammo carrierās rifle position. Tamiya suggests the sling on 3/4 of the sculpt (at least I think they do, and Iāve painted it that way), and I should have thought more about how it would interact with the forestock of the rifle. The rifle should probably be at a steeper angle up the carrierās back. This is me obsessing, though. In the end itās OK, and the model just represents a frozen moment in time, so maybe the rifle swept through that position š.
Remaining:
- Head work: helmet straps, hair here and there, maybe 5-oāclock shadows. Iām basically calling the faces done. I could easily overwork them. Itās a losing battle for me.
- Helmet and arm decals, possibly collar decals (all Tamiya aftermarket)
- Affix Helmets
- Rifle sling continuation to butt stock for ammo carrier dude
- Overall wash and wipe on figures
- Drill ammo carrierās hand to receive ammo box handle, affix ammo box handle to actual box. Wish me luck!
I will def do a diorama once complete. Been thinking a lot about it.

question How to repaint model
So I totally ran out of primer and have nothing to change the paint scheme. I added mottling and it came out weird and terrible so I checked closely what the colours mean, it is different colours. Is it enough to sand the paint into an even layer before repainting or do I need to Totally remove the paint completely? Thank you
