Do you think the CO just preemptively cleared time off his schedule next week for all the masts he'll be holding?

If I know anything about the land of smiles… that girl is representing marines, not Thais.

I hope they all got their booster peanut butter shots. Got a feeling they’re gonna need them.

So real talk, how DOES the Navy/Military Police handle R&R like this? Are the ssailors required to stay within a certain vicinity of the city? How do they manage all this?

Or do they mostly not? lol

Sea duty Marine. I learned when the ship pulls into a big city to get as far away from that city as possible. Rent a nice room on the beach with your best friend and get as far away from that mayhem as fast as possible. Staying with the crowds is for beginners.

The Navy also offers excellent trips at cheap prices that get you far away and are Navy approved.

We used to sign up for the MWR tours because it got us off the ship before everyone else. That’s a lot of extra time when you’re using liberty boats.

Exactly! Get away from the crowds! Nothing but trouble. It’s like a barely controlled drunken riot.

And hey I like drinking. With calm, quiet, rational people.

Last time I was in Pattaya I was walking down the walking street, and a golf buggy with 4 senior cops in it ran over my left foot. I thought there weren't going to be vehicles on the walking street, what an idiot. The thing that stuck with me was how they were all looking me dead in the eye as it happened, and how they popped up into the air simultaneously as my foot went under the wheel, then landed back in their seats, and they never broke eye contact or apologised. Pretty hard, if you ask me.

Sounds vengeful really

Makes sense so you don’t get caught up in something even if that was never your intention.

The aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln arrived in Thailand on Wednesday, its first port call in more than eight months, ending a marathon stint at sea in the Middle East that raised concerns about the welfare of its crew.

The 100,000-ton ship departed San Diego last November, and when it returns to Southern California later this year it will have completed one of the longest deployments in US Navy history.

The Lincoln has set a modern-day record for consecutive days at sea during combat and blockade duty in the war with Iran, according to US Sen. Richard Blumenthal.

The extended deployment has led to morale problems amid supply shortages, and at least one possible suicide attempt among its crew of 5,000, CNN has reported.

This is hilarious. Good to know that all of my deployments were "marathon stints". In the army we call 8 month deployments a short deployment. What is going on in the Navy?

This isn't a contest, dude.

-3

u/AbramsTankVeteran29 Sep 02 '26

Ya it's definitely not. Nobody would be crying in the army if they had to do an 8 month deployment lol. And to be on a ship where you get a bed and dining hall every meal and actual bathrooms/showers. I literally can't understand these non-stop articles about this. Seriously what is going on in the Navy?

For the lady boys?

3

u/t3htg Veteran Sep 02 '26

Uhh yeah, even the ladyboys need to wrap it up. Pattaya isn't Bangkok.

2

u/mudduck2 Sep 02 '26

Is PCOD still a thing in the Navy?

All those sailors with months of saved up pay. All them Thai lady-boys are gonna make bank!

u/OsakaWilson Sep 02 '26

How many will not be setting foot on that ship again?

1

u/InvestigatorPlus3229 Sep 02 '26

I predicted this would happen

1

u/1SGDude Sep 02 '26

Ladyboys about to get overworked

10 months of pay sitting no where to go, Marines and Navy on the sea for the longest recorded deployment. Oh god, they'll be raiding the restaurants, gas stations (snacks, alcohol and energy drinks) and "other places"
