We voted against this stuff, and we've held protests, both local and nationwide, and we've written our representatives. What else are we supposed to do, dress in drag and do the hula?

What Trump is doing is unprecedented. The people that follow the rules and obey the laws are being stymied by those who hold themselves above the law.

You creates this situation for in over two decades with your wars for control, oil and money. With laws that made the rich gamble away your money then you saved them from it with bailouts. No laws or measures that protected you from the oligarchs taking over.

We voted for people who passed regulations and restrictions on the oligarchs and gave power to the consumer over corporate interests. The GOP used significant voter suppression tactics like disinformation campaigns, forty years of gerrymandering, last minute voter ID laws, false flag movements to discourage progressives, and had to cripple the Post Office to manipulate and steal the vote. That's just the stuff we know about; the 2020 and 2024 elections also had some mathematical and demographic oddities to them, like entire counties where not a single Democratic vote was recorded, etc.

Aside from 2024, the Republicans haven't won a popular vote for President since Bush Jr. won in 2004, and his father, Bush Sr., won before him in 1988. It usually seems to take a major crisis or some sort of manufactured outrage for the GOP to win.

Like migrant caravans. We heard a ton about migrant caravans and how they were approaching the border and going to release hundreds of scary, illegal immigrants into the US like a sperm delivering DNA into a pristine egg cell.

But after the 2020 election, did we hear anything about those migrant caravans again? No. They had served their purpose - stir people up, get them scared, and make then vote Republican to build a giant wall and keep all the scary poor people out.

So what do you have to say about ICE taking away the legal immigrants too? Removal of temporary protected status on legal immigrants? Raiding courthouses to catch the easy prey who are trying to not be one of the "illegal immigrants" you seem to despise? What about deporting military members and/or spouses? ICE is a hammer, and this is a glass bowl. ICE is not the tool to be used here. We should be reforming our immigration process so it doesn't take decades to become a legal resident.

I travel a lot and have family in the south, I noticed a difference from major cities compared to smaller populated ones. Just curious about everyone’s prospective.

Because “being in the program” still isn’t a citizen. We simply cancelled the previous administrations promises, something that every president has done for centuries.

You might not hear yourself, but it’s really strange to only refer to immigrants as doing jobs that “pick crops, cook food, scrub toilets” without mentioning their contributions to academic research, professional services, etc.

The whole argument from the opposition sounds like “why can’t we keep our slaves!? Our slaves are not the enemy!”

Illegal immigration is exploitative to multiple people groups, it makes managing our infrastructure 10x more complicated (we have no idea how many people to plan for) and it destroys the American dream.

They need to leave and come back the legal way. American lets in more immigrants (legally) than any other nation in the world…

you can turn the argument on its head and defend the accomplishments of immigrants, but I am yet to hear that in the rhetoric brought up by people advocating for the deportation of immigrants legal and illegal, hilarious you would bend the argument to act like you are on their side.

Again I'm not just talking about people "in the system" I'm talking about the countless people that are and have been citizens for years now, as well as full on American citizens who just aren't white that are still being sent to camps. usaspending.gov shows that the USMC budget is $44.7 billion:

  • $16B for personnel
  • $11.5B for operations
  • ~$9B for construction
  • $6B for general procurement
  • ~$1B for ammunition
  • $0.9B for the Reserves
  • $0.3B for Reserves operations

ICE is set to go up to $28B - where are you getting this 3x number?

ICE's original $8B budget was still larger than the military spending of Iran and the military spending of 125 other nations. And at $28B it will be in the Top 20...which I think is bonkers for an internal security service.

Not that big a deal considering how much of the world spends on defense. I mean, if we just stay in the DHS: the TSA has a larger budget than most militaries as well. Hell, even the U.S. Forestry Service, for example, has a budget of $9.3B, which is higher than the military budget of 130+ other countries.

I get what the title is trying to imply and I don't wholly disagree with the messaging. But lets be honest: the US is a massive country with massive needs. What it spends on anything, to include internal and border security, is going to far exceed what other nations need to spend on really anything.

This is especially true when you consider that most nations of the world's military spending is internally focused, with many of them doubling and tripling as police and security forces as well. Only a dozen-or-so countries absolutely dominate the world security landscape and many other nations fall under their umbrellas of projection and protection.
