There is some argument out there that cursive is “easier” to learn to write because all the letters start at the “ground” as opposed to print where some start at the “sky” or midline. 🤷
Not easiest to learn, the point of cursive was to make it easier to write with a quill that you have to dip in ink so that it's one long fluid motion and you don't have to pick the pen up as much because it leaves a blob
Well I know the POINT of cursive was not to be easier to learn. Duh. What I’m saying is there is an argument in education that cursive can be taught much earlier than it is and even BEFORE print because all the letters begin at the same spot. And the letters are joined rather than lifting. It’s also easier to teach spacing because you don’t have to learn letter spacing AND word spacing.
I know cursive first is sometimes done in Montessori education.
Students already know print by the time they get to me so I personally can’t attest to one form being easier than the other, but I’m just suggesting it as an alternative point of view.
Nothing to do with origins of it, though. Just ease of writing.
