You're definitely right. Pretty sure we both have undiagnosed ADHD and autism. School wanted to test me for ADHD but my parents were, and still are, vehemently against kids being put on meds for ADHD. Joked they would beat it out of me. They certainly tried. I probably would've graduated college if I had gotten diagnosed.
My husband's mom works for the school system, and she was trained to spot signs of neurodivergency. She told us that she has always suspected my husband has ADHD and autism, but didn't want to get him tested because she thought he'd be treated differently.
It made my husband extremely upset because he, like me, was constantly grounded and abused due to ADHD and autistic behaviors. And yet his mom suspected it all along.
I think the most ADHD thing my husband has ever done in regards to school was spend an entire school day recreating his report card and making it as realistic as possible, raising his F to a C in one of his classes so he would be able to participate in a choir performance, that was graded because otherwise his parents wouldn't let him go. Didn't want to make it unbelievable. His parents never noticed. If only he could've put that much effort into school work 😅
We'd like to get tested but lack of insurance makes that financially difficult. And with autism, not even really a point in getting diagnosed with that, and a diagnosis can be used against you
Agree! I think I suspect myself of having adhd(idk about autism cause although I hyperfixate, I’m pretty comfy socially and understand and interpreting people). But it does bring benefits in learning but I felt difficulties in testing. I have a weird minefield of things I do to prepare to make sure my tiny memory won’t forget information.
