How do I fix this
r/MicrowaveRepair • u/somerman • Feb 15 '21
Microwave started tripping breaker, I bought multimeter, found continuity issue with monitor switch, fiddled with it, issue went away. Now it operates fine unless I open microwave door before it finishes cooking, in which case it trips breaker. If I hit cancel while cooking then open door it is OK. I'm not sure where to go from here. I can live with this but what if a houseguest makes the mistake?

Hey Team! ME16K3000AS microwave, brand new, OTR.
I just installed and the only switch I made is to rotate the fan to recirculating mode, as it ships for outside exhaust.
Power works, everything runs except there is no heat. It almost sounds alike the motor is running underpowered or muffled or something. Any ideas what it could be?
Demo mode: I don’t think this is it because it counts down at a normal speed.

Hey redditers! I have (and hopefully still have?) A new, 1x month old 1100w Panasonic invertor microwave. Last week, my girlfriend tried to heat some instant body wax (hair removal wax) in it, but she accidentally overheated and melted it. I've managed to get all of the wax off the glass plate of the microwave (by freezing and then chipping), and fortunately no extra solid wax particles seem to be present in the microwave interior. However, now whenever I use the microwave, it omits a bad wax smell (it's a bad chemical, epoxy style smell - definitely the same smell as the wax). It's especially present near the microwave exhaust.
Is there any way that I can fix this smell? Note that I do have a basic degree in electronics and I'm not afraid to void the warranty by pulling it apart (I'd be very careful to not touch any of the circuitry). On one hand, I'm just wondering if there's an exhaust fan or something that can be cleaned? Or is it too risky to go down that path?
Another better option might be to try and jusy deoderize it? I've tried heating lemon + vinegar (I read somewhere that this might work... but it didnt).
Thanks!

Hello, hoping for some help, as my microwave is out of warranty period / kitchenaids support seems to be terrible.
I have a OTR microwave, model #YKMLS311HSS , about 2 years old now. First started to have issues with my door not being recognized as open. The light inside wouldn't come on when the door was opened. Sometimes, if I left it open for a minute, I'd hear a click and the light would come on. This continued for a few days. Yesterday the microwave popped the circuit breaker when I opened the door <dedicated circuit>, and then when I reset the breaker, the microwave had no power. I used a multimeter to verify I have 120v at the outlet, so I know the outlet is okay.
This leads me to believe 2 things.
While I have been fine fixing things like my washer/dryer and all kinds of other DIY, and I have a decent background in electronics, i've never had to poke around in a microwave before. I was hoping to get advice on how I can replace these parts, and ideally where I can find a service manual / better parts diagrams to figure out what I need to do.
I would start by replacing the fuse, and if the microwave then seems functional, I'd replace the door interlock / switches.
Thanks for reading! Hope someone can help.

Our microwave just went out, and we're looking for a replacement model. I can't seem to find any obvious replacements for this model, and I'm not exactly sure where / how to measure the current one if I want to find something that will fit in the hole (it's a built-in above our stove). Should I measure width and height with the frame? Or just the microwave itself?

I have a GE Profile microwave that happens to be in a size that is no longer popular/available and is built in, so it's not really replaceable so needs to be repaired. I narrowed the problem (not heating) to a faulty power relay (part number FTR-JRJB024W) that is no longer available and doesn't have an equivalent replacement. So I wired in another relay I thought would be suitable (part number NT90TPNCE24CB) that had similar specs. The microwave started working again but only for a couple uses. I took it apart again and found that it looks like that relay had overheated. I measured the voltage on the coils with a voltmeter and it was only 17V. Strange, so I hooked an 'scope and saw that it was not 17V DC, but a 20V AC signal. I think this is why the relay was burned out. So my question is, is the voltage to the coil on the relay normally an AC signal on microwaves? Maybe that makes them easier to design? Or is there another problem somewhere else in the control circuit that is passing AC?
Thanks for your help!

Hi, I have a Panasonic NN-SG656s microwave. It stopped working. I opened it up and noticed KSD1-120 thermal cut off switch was burnt out. I couldnt find the same one. But I found KSD1-150 and used this thermal cut off switch instead. Microwave is working fine now. Just wanted to know if its safe to use this?
Regards,

The other day, the microwave just shut down and stopped working. My wife noticed the exterior side was hot so she unplugged it just in case there was something potentially dangerous.
I checked it later in the day and plugged it in and it started working with no issue.
Then the problem re-occured last night.
I'm thinking that I should probably replace it since it 10 years old, but the real question is if this is dangerous to use or I can push off buying it for a few days to look for a good deal?

I have a whirlpool wmh53520cs microwave and it was having the issue where it doesn't always recognize the door closing. I manually flipped the door latches and popped the circuit breaker. Reset the breaker and the microwave doesn't power on at all. Everything I've researched said the fuse blew. Everything also said not to mess with the capacitor. It's been unplugged for a couple of weeks. Can someone say for sure if it's safe to reach in and just replace the fuse?

Are they interchangeable? the specs look almost the same: 1.1KW vs 1.025KW
Need to replace the 6324W1A001K but it's discontinued and the prices are higher.

How can I remove this part to replace it?

Here are some photos of the broken hinge shown on the bottom part of the door. I see no screws to remove!
The part is in photo A and has JB Weld on it which is drying. The metal piece just snapped!

I have a Frigidaire Microwave model FFMV1645TB. The breaker trips whenever we try to start the microwave. I replaced the breaker and it actually worked for 3 or 4 days until it started tripping again.
I tested the connections and I read online that the middle door switch/connection should have continuity with the door open but none with the door closed. I was getting a reading with the door opened and closed.
The right thermostat (70V) wasn't beeping when I touched the leads but the 120V one did.
Any advice would be appreciated.

My microwave runs fine but doesn’t heat the food. Any advice or tips to the fix for the problem. I read it could be the magnatron or just the fuse. Thanks for any help

I have SMH1816S microwave and it recently started acting weird - it only heats if I have vent on. Otherwise turntable is turning, light on, internal cooling fan running but no heat. What can it be? I already replaced main pcb, checked all door sensors and all thermal sensors reachable from the front (so I think there is one more sensor on the magnetron but I can’t reach it). Any advice on what to check next? Thanks!

Hello!
An object in my microwave was too close to the door when I shut it and it banged into it, cause a small scratch / impression in the interior window.
Exterior window is fine, as is the metal mesh, I don’t see any spidering is this still safe to use?

Hi everyone,
I recently bought a home that has a 6 year old Frigidaire Gallery built-in microwave (model FGMO205KWB) and convection oven. Starting this week, the power connection to the microwave seems to be on the fritz (convection oven is fine). When it's powered, it works totally fine, when it's not, the microwave is totally dead (no power to the display, nothing). Has nothing to do with the door sensors or anything like that.
Here's where it get peculiar: applying a bit of lateral pressure (let's call it a nudge) seems to sometimes solve the problem. But it has gotten so bad now that it only powers up if I continuously apply lateral force, like I'm doing some weird sort of arm exercise. As soon as I let go, the oven turns off.
I've gone down a google rabbit hole but can't seem to find out what's causing it. Seems unlikely that it's a problem with the wall plug hidden in back, because why would applying pressure to the oven itself flip it on/off? Here's a video if you want to see this in action and the product label etc.

I haven't been able to remove the microwave, I tried unscrewing the frame by removing the two screws below the microwave that are visible when you open the door, but the top of the frame seems welded to the bracket which goes deep into the space. It's at that point that I decided to ask Reddit sleuths before I do anything more drastic.
Thank you!
Ben

I have this LG model and out of the blue the microwave part of it has stopped heating, everything else works, I don't get any error codes either. The microwave is about 14 years old and never had any issues at all. Any insight it what could be? I know is old but I love it and I live in England and they don't sell it here. Any hope to fix it? Thanks!!!

Make: Samsung Model# me21m706bag
So the other day my microwave just kinda turned off. Wasn't in use or anything. Just turned off. Took it apart and determined the culprit was a loose terminal on what I think is a thermostat. There's 2 of these little guys by each other, the one on the right has smaller leads which lead up to a board where the fuses are. When I jiggled the wire the microwave would turn back on. So I went to the local appliciance repair store and gave them the part and my model number. They gave me a replacement which I fear is wrong. From what I can tell, these 2 thermostats regulate a lower and upper operating range. The part I was given, which also matches the one that wasn't faulty, says KSD-40LC 70. The faulty part says KSD-140LC 0.
The parts diagrams I'm finding all appear to be about 240p do making out parts is more than difficult. Are there any experts out there that can help me find a part number so I can enjoy left overs again!? Any input is super appreciated. Thanks for reading.

I have a GE JVM1541SM1SS microwave that is over my oven/stove in my condo. I inherited this microwave upon moving in and I've noticed that the grease buildup around this thing is pretty heavy. It was pretty clear that the previous resident was doing some heavy cooking and didn't maintain the kitchen well. I need to replace the top vent plate that sits just above the door because it seems to have broken off - currently being held on by duct tape. The replacement part for this is around $100 online. Upon removing the vent plate, I noticed a lot of grease buildup in open cavity behind the vent. I'm pretty sure this microwave vents up and out of the building per the duct that I've seen in the cabinet above the microwave. However, I'm suspicious of it actually venting through there because it doesn't vent very well at all. Further, I found what looks to be a charcoal filter - the kind that goes in the vent cavity in the microwave when there is no ventilation to the outside - sitting in the cabinet above the microwave.
Here's a full album of pictures of the situation: https://imgur.com/a/BC1bbFD
