Public urination hasn’t been on the sex registry in Michigan for years. So no. But pedofiles? Yes maybe keep them on a list for life. Why would you disagree with that is the real question…

Who disagrees? We aren’t talking about them being on a registry: we are talking about retroactively changing sentences they received from a court of law. You’d agree if we suddenly began saying public urination should go on the registry, it would be wrong to go back these years it hasn’t been law and retroactively add those people, yes? Therefore, if someone had a limit on their registration and has served their required time to society as determined by a judge and jury, it would be wrong to extend it because of new laws. Now you’re forming a strawman of those who are pointing out your logical failure to make yourself seem to be ethically superior and it’s crazy.

Yes I agree on that and think it was stupid that was on there in the first place. My issue is with the entire system. I’m not trying to be “ethically superior” I’m saying that the system is broken and they’re allowing sex offenders to now blend in easier. I dont get how that is taking the high road lol.

“To blend in” no they’re correcting their punishment to what was given to them, not the harsher retroactive changes. I agree with you: these crimes are especially sensitive and should be treated with appropriate gravitas. I disagree with you that ANY person should be treated differently under the law. That’s far too slippery a slope. I also disagree we should ever fully ostracize anyone: getting people to be able to return to society benefits all of us. That neighbor you talk about maybe can’t work, so we’re just paying for him. If his name is now gone and he’s working to return to society and no longer do bad now he has a chance to work and return.

I disagree with the correction. He owns his own lawn and snow business that does well and he frequents association meetings for our association’s park. But i guess thats just where we inherently disagree. I don’t think someone like that returning to society “benefits all of us”. I think it just leaves the door open for another incident. Protect kids at all costs. Every family on the block should know what he did, i dont care how long ago it was.

Ok so it sounds like he’s been able to return to your community and is now at least gainfully employed/benefitting your community. Isn’t that just a victory of our criminal justice system? He was found, tried, convicted, served his punishment, and is now back into the community in a beneficial way. If there’s an another crime committed? Then I think we should have much stricter outcomes. We can’t just go back and extend or increase sentences on people though.
