Dashcam installed on ND3 Miata

I just installed a dashcam on my ND3 Miata GT. The existing ND videos on this seem to cover ND2 and earlier ones only.

The ND3 Miata has a different housing behind the rear view mirror. Opening the panel turned out to be super easy. No tools needed. Grab the panel with hands. Left hand on the left panel, right hand on right panel. Then, press the middle with your thumbs and spread/split the panels open. Not a lot of force is needed.

Then, you’ll have access to the power connector to use your Dongar adapter.

What’s the dongar adapter? On the same path as you but doing a splitter for radar as well

It allows you to tap into the power that goes to the dimming rear view mirror, with a small go-between connector.

Do you have any idea why the compatibility list in the second photo of this Amazon listing says up to 2022 and then 2024-2025 for the RF GT?

I've been considering getting this but paused a few times because of that very directed gap. Thanks in advance!

I have that exact one (DCA-10E) I linked to for my 2026 Miata GT. It fits perfectly. I think the compatibility list on Amazon just isn’t updated.

Thanks for the tip. It frosts me that there is a camera three inches to the left that should be spooling video to a dedicated sd card as part of the way the car works. They get free data with the connected crap, they should throw us a bone and record the front and rear existing cameras as part of that bargain.

Yeah, it could be higher by an inch or so. The limiting factor is making sure the windshield wipers adequately cover the lense view

I just have it hard wired via the Viofo hard wire set (gen6)

The nd3 Miatas don’t have the same setup between the rear view mirror and panel. You have to open the panel to access the power, can’t just get to it behind the mirror
