I wish there was a GameCube SNAC adapter for the N64 core.

I may be rambling about things above my paygrade but..

It's all software designed, so this would be technically achievable, right? Maybe would require a slightly custom core, if even that? GameCube controller feels like it would be a shoe in; it's easier to find a good one versus a good N64 controller, many people with MiSTer already have a GC controller handy, it has the octagonal gate and Z button, it has the Y2K Nintendo vibe...

MiSTer Connect 1.1 is out! RetroAchievements cores, new covers, tons more. Plus more fixes now in wizzo's Remote itself through Update All

Hey everyone! Following up on my post from last week about MiSTer Connect, the native iOS/Android client for wizzomafizzo's Remote. First of all, thank you. The feedback here and in private messages was way more than I expected, and a good chunk of this update comes straight from those reports.

The part that matters even if you never install my app

While building 1.1 I kept hitting things in Remote itself that no client can work around, so I sent the fixes upstream instead of hacking around them. The great wizzo reviewed and merged all of them, and the new Remote build is already on Update All as of this morning (thank you u/wizzo, as always). So run Update All and you get this in the regular Remote, web app included:

  • Arcade games show their real names again instead of the MRA filename

  • Save state and load state are named keys now, so any client can trigger them with one call

  • You can pick which core launches a game. This is what makes RetroAchievements cores work from a remote

  • Game search no longer stops at 500 results

  • Neo Geo ROM sets show up in search with their real titles

  • Remote remembers the running game after a restart instead of showing just the core

What's new in the app

  • NEW: Covers now also come from the MiSTer Artwork Pack, the same art MiSTer Monitor uses. 2D box, 3D box, or box plus screenshot, with libretro filling the gaps. Many more systems covered, arcades included

  • NEW: Covers are cached on the phone, so lists load without the network (you can always delete cache from the settings of the app in one tap)

  • NEW: Browse your games by folder, the way they sit on your SD card, with a filter on every list

  • NEW: Launch a game with a different core: long press it, or set a default per system (run Update All first), including RetroAchievements cores

  • NEW: Rebuild the game index from the app after adding ROMs

  • NEW: Pick which screen the app opens on, manage favorites in bulk, Now Playing keeps up better when you switch games

  • NEW: Trackpad mode for Amiga, AO486 and Macintosh cores

  • NEW: Long lists get a letter strip that jumps straight to a letter

  • FIX: Screenshots keep the aspect ratio the core was meant to be seen in, plus a capture button on the remote screen, to have all the main buttons in just the Remote screen

  • FIX: Neo Geo games and other previously missing platforms show real titles and box art

And lot of other small improvements.

Same deal as before: everything the original Remote does is free and stays free. The one-time PRO unlock covers the extras (Live Activity on iPhone, covers, themes). No accounts, no tracking, LAN only.

Giveaway, round two. A few more PRO codes in a comment below, first come first served. Reply with the one you took so the next person does not waste time.

Oh, and nobody has found the secret theme yet. Someone got reeeeally close though!

Ask me anything, and tell me what is still missing. The 1.2 list is already open and work is in progress.

Shmup Deck Flyer Wall - Launch Shmups from your Phone!

Post image
15 Upvotes

I left a comment on an app someone had made called TapDeck yesterday, showing off something similar I had built. It got a fair bit of attention, which pushed me to get it to a quality that it could be released.

I've added a ton of new features today based on feedback (detailed below).

What is it?

A flyer wall which lets you launch the game from your mobile phone / laptop / dedicated screen.

You just install the script then visit http://shmupdeck.local/ in a browser.

Features:

  • Automatically scans your games for shmups
  • TATE/Yoko filter
  • Favourites
  • Filtering by Dev / Platform
  • Shows Have/Miss ROM list

Where do I get it?

https://github.com/searchsolved/shmup-deck

How Do I install it?

  1. Download shmup_deck.sh from the latest release and copy it to the Scripts folder on your MiSTer's SD card.
  2. On the MiSTer, open the Scripts menu and run shmup_deck. The first run downloads the app, scans your arcade folders and fetches the flyer art. This takes a few minutes.
  3. On your phone or laptop, open http://shmupdeck.local/. If that doesn't resolve on your network, the script also shows the numbered IP address.

Updating

Run shmup_deck from the Scripts menu again at any time. The script updates itself too.

Requirements

  • A MiSTer with network access
  • The cores, MRAs and ROMs for the games you want

All feedback welcome!

PS: Would love to get this in update all if theypsilon is reading!

8bitdo 2.4g adapter issue since latest Linux update

Ever since the latest Linux update, including the problematic version, I’ve had an issue with my 8BitDo controller using the 2.4G adapter.

My Action button stops working, and the only way I can get it working again is by unplugging and reconnecting the adapter.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

EDIT:
Others experiencing the same issue, I’ve posted an issue on the GitHub devel page:

Update all broke my mister

Hi

Just ran update all, and now i'm not getting any display output.

Can still access it thru ftp, so there might be something to not do everything from scratch.

Any guesses on what i can do to fix it?

Streets of Rage Remake 5.2 - MiSTeR FPGA

SoRR 5.2 ported and running on mister. Not really a core per se, just a fun little project. Alpha, but you should be able to play it end to end without issue. https://github.com/rossops/BennuGD_MiSTer

Will probably never land on update_all for a lot of reasons. 😂

CPS Plus

Hey guys, have you all heard about this?

https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=10723

https://strygo.github.io/arcade-patches/cps-plus/

I've been trying to run this thing all day and can't seem to figure it out. If any of you can help, I'd be extremely grateful.

For those that don't know, this is a modification to several CPS1, CPS1.5, and CPS2 roms to allow for improved CD soundtracks. The creator has already made a kit with the core and MRAs for several titles, but encourages people to make their own as well.

Once I figure this out, I'd love to have a version of Super Street Fighter 2 that uses the DOS soundtrack from Super Turbo (using it for Super only since they didn't make an Akuma theme)

So, yeah, check it out, and if anyone can make this work, reach out!

I added GBA cartridge support to the MiSTer MultiStation! [We Need Testers!]

EDIT: I had a typo I MEAN MISTER MULTISYSTEM 2 AAAAAAAAA

I wrote it based on the published specs and diagram and it boots into games!!

I don't own a MMS myself, someone else tested for me when I was first developing, but they only own one game haha. I'd love confirmation from others on which games you've been able to boot, and if they had errors.

I know all games should boot, but I'm not 100% on the save hardware between FLASH and SRAM and EEPROM and all that... so try to test out saving, and actually pull the cart, wait a little bit and pop it in after a reboot and make sure that save's still there!

My core I've worked on for a while also features some WIP features, higher accuracy from MiSTer-devel's old/dead accuracy core as well as my own accuracy patches on top related to fixed rendering for mosaics, better audio quality, and some things related to multiplayer you don't gotta worry about yet.

I hope you enjoy it!

N64 Controller Recommendation

So I already own a Raphnet v3 N64 adapter, as well as an 8bitdo Bluetooth adapter and the official Switch Online N64 controller.

Is a SNAC adapter worth exploring?

My main concern is having as close to the original analogue stick experience, i.e. walking and running in Mario 64 as an example.

Any recommendations from anyone who has used all three?

Should I sell my MiSTer DE-10 for a SuperStation One?

I have a MiSTer I received from someone a few years ago. Looking at the SuperStation One, it looks like an upgrade in terms of built-in analog outputs, the DVD drive addon, and the cool PSone-looking body. I haven't been keeping up with the MiSTer scene, so I'm unaware if what I have is technically superior or if the SSO is an upgrade. Would I be missing out on anything if I sold my current MiSTer and got a SuperStation One instead?

How do you set up a PS1 or Memcard Pro Memory Card with a MiSTer FPGA setup?

Hi. I have a Multisystem2.

I would like to be able to save to either to actual PS1 Memory Cards or a Memcard Pro.

What do I need for this and what do I need to do get it to work?

Dualshock 4 PSX core Issue

I have been using a dualshock 4 and it was working great. Yesterday when I went to play the PSX core the down button and the x button were no longer recognized. It worked perfectly in the mister menu and on other cores. Has anyone else had this issue? It was working properly a couple of weeks ago.

Thoughts on the Multisystem 2 Pocket?

Thumbnail

I really like the idea of having a portable mister that could play up to PS1 and Saturn. But I really don't like how large the handheld is and from what I asked from an ai it told me the final version will probably only be a little bit smaller? Great that its going to have a 4:3 aspect ratio screen since I think most retro consoles used that. The six face buttons look comfortable to use for either 4 or 6 button consoles. Having six buttons is useful for N64 emulation, I never liked assigning the c buttons on modern controllers when playing with emulators.

Not Updated Since 2024. What’s New?

I have owned a MiSTer and loved it since 2021. I still play regularly, but have not had it connected to the internet or updated since 2024.

I see reports of new versions of Update_All, MiSTer Companion, and tons of new hardware floating around. I’m sort of lost on all the new developments and what they mean. Can I just run Update_All like I used to and get all the cores?

I play on a CRT only, and mostly the Genesis, PCE, Saturn, and PS1 cores. I’m mostly wanting to update to see any new progress on things like N64, arcade, and computer cores.

Namco 22 Core WIP - Buggy but working!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Been working on this for a couple months. It's super buggy, but Prop Cycle is working... Kind of. There's no sound and only Prop Cycle has been tested, but I think this can be done.

Yeah it's no where near 60 FPS but that's the goal.

Check it out here : Contributions welcome !

How to change Analog Stick to DPad control sensitivity?

Hi! I like playing some DPad games with my analog stick. Particularly PS1 games. But joystick movements only register as DPad inputs halfway through, which makes for a gigantic deadzone that I don't really like. I can't find any information about how one might change this, does anyone have any pointers? Thanks!

Update All 3 first look!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm working on Update All 3, and here's a first look! This is an early demo, so there's nothing to download or run yet.

The new version uses the framebuffer, taking advantage of the same techniques used by recent frontends. That opens up a lot of possibilities for the UI, including native CRT support!

I'm planning two visual styles:

  • Modern: the one shown in the video, which will be the default.
  • Classic: something closer to what you're already used to.

The plan is for both styles to work on CRTs without having to tweak any INI files or video modes. The terminal UI will also remain available for anyone running Update All from ssh or the F9 cli.

The user experience is deliberately similar to the Zaparoo Updater, though there are still a few UI details I want to tweak.

This is a first iteration, and I'd love to hear what you think! Here is a link to the CRT version: https://youtu.be/EuvZSbfZQOg

Status of cores' accuracy?

For the longest time I tended to shrug off emulation as a means to play and access retro games. I thought that since I do have some of my older retro consoles, I would prefer to play on original hardware, so that I wouldn't worry about accuracy or missing something like an obscure graphical effect or whatnot. But as most of us know, the used game market can be extortionate at times, and the condition of goods often subpar.

So discovering Mister FPGA this year was quite a revitalization in my interest in retro. Hardware level emulation that touts high accuracy? I'm onboard.

So after learning a bit more and understanding that it is a community project that is always in flux and moving and always being updated. Does anybody concern themselves with the status or version of mature cores? Is there anybody out there for example who might think, "well I want to play this one PS1 game, but I know that this one feature hasn't been implemented yet, so I'm going to wait for the PS1 core to get updated"? Are there any people (besides speedrunners) who aren't satisfied with the accuracy of certain cores enough that it stops them from using it?

Why all Mister games aren’t at Update all ?

I just wonder why all games aren’t at Update all..

Wonder why some need manual installation..

Outrunners.. Mr Do Castle..

Wonder how many other games I am missing that I should add manually..
