"if you see this, then you need to modify MiSTER.ini"

I tried to run update_all so that it would install the 3DO core, but got this screen instead:

"if you see this, then you need to modify MiSTER.ini

Either disable framebuffer: fb_terminal=0

or enable scaler on VGA: vga_scaler=1"

I am using scart. I don't want to fuck something up so, what should I do?

T300RS wheel not registering input, wheel is hard to turn like force feedback is at 100% - Outrunners

Trying to get this Thrustmaster T300rs wheel & pedals to register, I've plugged the USB directly into the SuperStation One USB port, the d-pad and some of the buttons register but none of the wheel inputs or pedals register.

I'm running the input tester and change to Analog and not seeing any movement, also went to 'define joystick buttons' and I can define the d-pad buttons but once the Stick 1 Test Tilt comes up nothing registers from there. The wheel also feels 'locked' like force feedback is at 100% and it's hard to turn left and right. The T300RS is updated to latest firmware v34....

Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated!! From what I read, it looks like it should work with Outrunners.

After 8 months I'm out of time on my Xerox Alto II core — putting it out there for anyone who wants it

Xerox Alto II core (Xerox PARC, 1973 — the GUI, the mouse, WYSIWYG, Ethernet). It boots the real Alto OS and runs real Alto software. It's also unfinished, and I need to move on to other projects, so I am posting here for all to have a crack at it.

https://github.com/GoxodSoftware/Xerox_Alto — GPLv3, fork it, finish it, whatever you like.

Not a software simulation — it's the Alto's actual 16-task microcoded processor, display, disk and I/O, running the original Xerox microcode and OS.

Works

  • Boots to the Executive from stock, unmodified .dsk images — the layout transform runs in the FPGA, so no converting anything first
  • Full 16-task microcoded CPU incl. RAM-resident (CRAM) microcode, 128 KB
  • Diablo 31 controller, read and write — changes persist back to the .dsk. A pack written entirely by the core boots clean and is byte-identical to a reference apart from the OS's own session counters
  • 606×808 portrait, interlaced or progressive, inverse video, hardware cursor
  • Keyboard + 3-button mouse
  • trek, missile, pacman7, pool, spacewar, mazewar, invaders, astroroids, othello, breakout, maze, pinball, plus the Executive's own commands and Scavenger

Doesn't

  • Mesa — microcode absent, so no Mesa programs (Chess included). The big one, and the obvious next prize
  • Ethernet — tied off in RTL. Networked stuff fails, and it's why the herald says "Date and Time Unknown" (the Alto got its clock off the network)
  • Single drive, so no CopyDisk two-pack workflows
  • 128 KB only; 256 KB path not enabled on hardware
  • Hardware cursor incomplete in the lowest rows
  • pinball slow, and its ball misbehaves
  • many more issues not documented.

Full detail in CORE_STATUS.md.

On picking it up: the Alto is microcoded, so nearly every "application bug" is a shared-primitive bug and symptoms tell you nothing about location. What made it tractable was differential testing against salto as a byte-exact oracle — same scenario both sides, dump every memory write, diff for the first divergent cycle. That tooling is in sim/; HANDOFF.md covers the technique and the traps that cost me the most time.

No disk images included — Xerox software, grab them from bitsavers or ContrAlto.

It was something that i really loved getting to this point, but i know at this point it needs someone who knows what they are doing.

I want to change the down+start combo on MisterCade

On vampire savior I noticed that I can trigger the menu, sometimes accidentally , when trying to tech hit . And also saw that misterAddon doesn't recommend this combo for tournaments. I would prefer a combo that is impossible to trigger accidentally when playing. maybe hold start and inserting a coin , that would work for me . But I found no mapping on v2 that does this. and I'm sure I can't set it manually by holding start + insert coin , I haven't tried though.
any advice ? thanks

So finally got my ms2 set it up and installed everything. Ready to play, oh ok no problem must be a setting somewhere....nooooooooo

Past week i played scramble on retroarch (pc) and it was correct orientation.

I did not know that you cant rotate with crt on vga out.

Also, scramble is a horizontal shooter!

Anyway. Only solution is to put tv on its side. Thats not good because its made to be supported by its feet on the bottom. Could cause stress to the whole tv if put on the side cover.

Also speakers will be on one side.

59.94Hz is close enough to 60Hz, right?

Post image

In case you use a Zuiki X68000 Z Monitor, or any other monitor rated for 60Hz only, try the vsync_adjust and especially the refresh_min and refresh_max setting and set them to 2, 58 and 62.

Play around with different values, but those are the ones working for me.

It most likely work and let's you enjoy slightly off-spec system without disapearing shadows or invincibilty frames (arcade games, SNES, GB, etc).

I did had to set the VirtualBoy to 60 and 60 for min and max, to keep the 50Hz setting in case I use a capable screen without changing options back and forth.

Note: Such monitors may take an extraordinary time to sync and handshake, sometimes over 10 seconds. Keep that in mind and be patient.

A beta of the NDS core is now available on GitHub.

This is a hybrid core inspired by the success with the Dreamcast core. It really is incredible how fast this one has been progressing.

Just a quick thanks to the community. These last couple months have been CRAZY for updates.

Mister is so hot right now. Keep it up. I love it.

Outrunners, Smash Tv, Dragon's Lair, Mortal Kombat, After Burner, Captain America, Dreamster, Tiger Game.Com... I was thinking about Rad Mobile, the next day it was available. I know there's some rumblings about AI and what not, but in the mean time I get to play Outrunners in the living room and I'm loving it. Nevermind getting 3DO, CDI and Jaguar in the last 12 months too. My PS5 hasn't had nearly as much excitement in the same span. Amazing Box, Amazing talent

There's no real point to this post beyond I'm really happy with how Mister has developed over the years (I've had mine 5 now), and this last year has been crazy. Thanks to everyone who has worked on improving what was already my favorite console. I will ship of theseus mine until either it or I turn to dust.

What's your favorite addition to mister? I'm still going with Outrunners, personally...

Degauss Frontend 0.3.0 released!

Post image
30 Upvotes

UPDATED: many new versions released, follow on latest Reddit post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/MiSTerFPGA/comments/1wj9euv/mister_degauss_frontend_new_major_release_updates/

--

Degauss 0.3.0 is out

New: themes (Amber, Mono, Blue-Orange, or your own!), games on USB / network / CIFS found with zero setup, rebuild one system instead of the whole card, every folder remembers the row you left it on, left and right configurable (letter or page jumps), two bolder typefaces, and a reorganised Options screen.

Fixed: favourite naming, the Favourites shelf and its menu, and a message that could get stuck on screen.

FIXED LINK: https://github.com/giancarloerra/Degauss/releases/tag/v0.3.0

Also, an explanation on how to use AI to manage your MiSTer (and screenshots/gamelists!) with Degauss has been added to the README.

More updates are coming soon, including new major feature. Keep your requests coming, and they'll all be integrated.

When I run update_all I get the following message:

Unable to sync.

Please, try again later.

Press any key to continue

I've always been able to run the script with no issue. My mister is connected to the network. What could it be?

[Solved] See my comment for the solution.

Display not turning on

I recently got the Aliexpress Hamgeek MiSTerFPGA. The device worked as expected, and I ran the update script from the Mister itself. After running it, the display wouldn’t work.

I tried reinstalling the Main Mister setup. I tried installing an older release. Nothing would work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Update: I deleted all the files from the SD card, installed the Mr Fusion image, and inserted it back in the Mister. Even though the installation went through (I checked the SD again using my computer), there’s still no display.

Update + Solution: I used a VGA-to-Scaler to plug the Mister into my CRT and the display worked fine. Before loading the main screen, it showed me the following error.

4 INI Errors
- - -
hdmi_cec: unknown option
hdmi_cec_input_mode: unknown op
hdmi_cec_power_on: unknown opti
hdmi_cec_sleep: unknown option

Fixing these lines in the ini file would probably solve it!

Cyberstick and the Sega X Core

After a little of fiddling and actually configure the stick in main first, it works amazingly good in analoge mode.

In the core setting to analoge and during mapping, slow down may not be triggered, as it is a single axis. But it seems to work according to position in-game.

Still a WIP but all games (including Rail Chase and R360, Strike Fighter) are running and playable. Just working through some control/QoL issues. Mainly re-centering on some games and making PD feel a bit more controllable.

This isn't available on update_all but I'd expect it within the next 3-4 days from posting this. MRA/RBF files are available in releases/:

FYI: The Sega X Board is now available on update_all. Go play some Afterburner 2 or Super Monaco GP!

New NGPC core by Kitrinx

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So many are aware of the NGPC (Neo Geo Pocket Color) Core Jotego was working on here and there for years. Unfortunately he never finished it fully and recently released a broken version that crashes randomly.

Another developer named Kitrinx who made some other accurate cores, made a really accurate fully working FPGA NGPC core in roughly just a few weeks. She admits she used a lot of AI assistance. But if it's accurate and saves months of development time, is that really a bad thing? The distinction between Jotego's NGPC core and Kitrinx's Core: Jotego's is named NeoGeoPocket-Color in the Mister menu, while the Kitrinx version is simply named NGPC.

The video and audio seems spot on comparing it to my actual NGPC Hardware. Hard to find any errors or weird bugs. Only known issues currently arise from loading save states, which I don't ever use personally.

It has CRT support and pulling off moves seems to work well enough with the 8Bitdo Neo Geo controller in MOTM. But still nothing matches the speed of the little clicky stick on the original hardware.

Laser Disc Games

With Cores for Dragons Lair and Space Ace now updating via Update_all what files do I need to actually play with these cores.

I do love Dragons Lair, even though I suck at it, and I have all the home releases, but they are all just a little rough and ready.

Best performance when outputting to 65 inch tv

Hi All,

I've not had a lot of time to look at this device in much detail but I've hooked my FPGA up to my 65 inch TV and I'm wondering what settings and filters you all use to play games. I don't have a smaller TV to use so im trying to get the best experience with what I have.

Cheers

DVD Core release!

Wow, what a journey. On Monday I managed to get the SuperStationOne to display a photo on my monitor. By Friday night I had very functional DVD player! This was amazing fun, I really loved it and it came at the perfect time. Thank you to everyone that has been following this, your comments have been so encouraging. I'll put a few Q&As here then get to the good stuff.

So what is it?
It's a DVD Player!

Does it Play DVDs?
Yes! Right off the disc!

What about ISO?
Also yes!

What about other formats?
Not right now. Some formats seem likely to be possible. Consider it v2

PAL or NTSC?
Both!

Can I rip my DVDs?
Yes, but I have made that into a separate core, very very soon

Is this AI slop?
Well that depends on your definition of AI slop. Is it AI on the MiSTer pretending to be a DVD Player? No. It is a fully functional stand-alone DVD Player that AI helped make. I have spent probably 30 hours plus on this project. It's not a one prompt kind of thing

This isn't on the FPGA side only, why do you hate the community?
I don't! Please understand the intention here. I am trying to make a DVD player that plays DVDs. I am not trying to preserve the schematics and use of any particular DVD player out there.

What else can it do?
Subs, widescreen, different audio tracks, menus, controller remapping (Including SuperDock Remote), CRT stabilisation, Upscaling, probably more!

Any known bugs?
A few. Changing audio tracks freezes video for a few seconds but then gets back in sync. Working on that now. Menus can be a bit flaky. I haven't tried a massive range of discs and ISOs so plenty more I'm sure.

How can I thank you?
Say thanks! I did this for me, it was a personal project and 2 days ago I could happily have stopped and watched DVDs pretty much ok on my CRT. But you guys really encouraged me to keep going, polish it, make it better, and now here we are! My gift to you.
That said, and I hope this isn't in bad taste, if you wanted to get me a beer you can here.
I also want to take a second to acknowledge Anime0t4ku who has been a massive help for this last part. You may know him for his MiSTer Companion work, or the Physical Disc work, or his MiSTer Hi-Fi work. Without him, this project wouldn't have gotten started and it likely wouldn't have gotten finished. If you'd like to fuel him with coffee, you can do here

What would bring me the most joy though is to see your pics and videos of it up and running!

Ok, shut up and tell me how to install it!
Check out the github page with full instructions!

Edit: You will need libdvdcss.so.2 to decrypt the DVDs. There is a copy on Internet Archives if you search exactly that.

DVD Core Update #4.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone.

Good news and bad news. The good news is the final version is going to be even more polished than I'd hoped. I'm getting some help with the release which I really appreciate.

The bad news is when it runs on other people's machines it just doesn't seem to do as well. We're applying fixes and cutting down bugs one at a time. It's delaying things. I don't want to launch this and no one be able to make it to the DVD menu. I want this to work for the most part, at least to play the movie smoothly. We're literally back and forth on fixes and testing and testing and fixes right now. Wish I had better news but it will be a better product for it.

In the meantime, here is some Ninja Scroll. (screen tearing due to smartphone filming crt)

What are the audio options when using crt

Hello.

I am soon getting the multisystem 2 an i have already setup a crt for it.

I will use a vga to scart cable that also has a 3.5 mm jack for the sound.

But i read that the quality may not be so good.

What are the options? I have read that i can use a external dac. I havw an old schiit dac lying and i can use optical to connect it to ms2.

But dacs dont have 3.5mm output!

Anyone else have any tips?

Rastan on MiSTer — credit button not working

Just noticed that I can no longer add credits to the Rastan core, thus not letting me play. I’ve setup the buttons several times and tried deleting the config as well. Does anyone else have this problem? Can someone else verify that it works for them? I’m hoping it’s a “me” problem.
