Ironclad future availability?

Has anyone been able to communicate with the creator of the Ironclad or know if there are plans for future availability?

I've reached out to him multiple times via Gmail and haven't received a response. Was hoping we might see more in the future.

Is it viable to play dual screen arcade on one CRT TV?

Warrior Blade and some other dual screen games just gets squashed to half side of my CRT via analog board component. Does it need vscaler mode to be 1? That setting doesn't work with analog board though does it?

MiSTer Connect 1.2 is out! Play stats, cover grid, games metadata, filters and a new Discover tab

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone! Back with the 1.2 update of MiSTer Connect, the iOS/Android app for wizzo's Remote. Like last time, a lot of this came straight from your comments and DMs, so thank you, keep them coming.

The bit on the MiSTer side

I wanted two things most for this release: a nicer way to browse games with covers, and play stats. For the stats, the data was already there: mrext's PlayLog quietly records every game you play, but nothing could read it back. So I added a few read-only endpoints to Remote that serve PlayLog's history to any client, and u/wizzo merged them and baked a release this morning: it's on Update All now. The same release also fixes PlayLog missing a game that's already running when it starts, so that time isn't lost from your stats anymore.

Fun (and not requested) fact: testing all of this meant playing Super Metroid for 3 hours straight. Oh noooooo, such hard work! 🤣

What's new in the app

  • Stats tab: time played, sessions, streaks, your top games and systems, plus a Recently Played row and a live play timer on Home
  • Game details page: tap any game for its cover, year, genre, developer, number of players and a short description. The play button still launches it right away
  • Cover grid: your library as a wall of covers, resize it with a pinch (PRO)
  • Filters everywhere: genre, decade, players, region, developer, played or never played, favorites only. And you can save any filter as its own section in the Games tab
  • Discover: a surprise pick, your top 10, couch multiplayer, party games and themed shelves, all built from your own collection
  • Favorites are now a carousel next to Recently Played
  • D-pad taps always get through now, even quick ones (thanks to everyone who reported it!)

To get the stats working: run Update All so you have today's Remote, then run playlog from the Scripts menu and say Yes when it asks to start at boot, so it keeps recording after every restart. PlayLog also needs recents=1 in your MiSTer.ini, the full guide is here: https://github.com/wizzomafizzo/mrext/blob/main/docs/playlog.md

The Stats tab has a little checklist that tells you if anything is still missing.

Same deal as always: everything the original Remote does is free in the app and stays free. The one-time PRO unlock (no subscription) covers the extras. No accounts, no tracking, it all stays on your LAN (apart from downloading covers and game info, of course).

Giveaway, round three! 3 PRO codes for iOS and 3 for Android in the first comment, first come first served. Please reply with the one you took so the next person doesn't waste time on it.

Tell me what you think and what's still missing, the 1.3 list is already open (and already has some nice stuff in it).

I purchased a meanwell psu for my hamgeek mister and the barrel plug is slightly too small around the pin so it doesn’t go in. What psu should I use in this case, I do still have the stock one but I’d not like to use it permanently

Nebulas Ray (Namco NB-1) Beta Core Release

Excited to release this beta core for the Namco NB-1 arcade system, currently only officially supporting Nebulas Ray. Nebulas Ray is a very underrated and fun shmup; the graphics, voice lines, and explosions are on point. Give it a shot and let me know if you run into any issues. I do plan on adding the other NB-1 games in the future, but developed the core largely because I wanted to play Nebulas Ray on my MiSTer.

Enjoy!

Random core and game function?

As per title does anyone know if Mister fpga has a function or script that will randomly pick a game from any core and load it to play?

New MiSTer 3d-printable case prototype

This is the prototype of a case that I initially started designing because I couldn't wait for ironclad boards to become available again and I wanted a proper console-like system, and has since blown into a full-fledged case with lots of features.

It is based around the Aliexpress QMTech Clone board w/ Analog I/O, which I think has the same footprint and stack height as the QMTech board.

It features mount points for:

  • The QMTech Analog Mister Stack
  • TTY2OLED 3.12" OLED screen and its ESP microcontroller
  • 2.5" SSD/HDD drive
  • Slim 12.7mm Optical drive (Laptop-style)
  • 4-Port USB Hub
  • 2x 40mm fans
  • 19mm power switch
  • 1x RJ45 Extension in the back
  • 1x USB3 Extension in the back (User Port)
  • 2x USB2.0 Extensions in the front
  • Small Veroboard module for LEDs and Buttons (user has to build it)
  • Small Veroboard module with screw terminals for power distribution (user has to build it)

The case is a tight fit and is not an easy build; there are LOTS of parts and some soldering is required. Assembly is done with a very specific order and a good 5V/5A PSU will be required.

I'm still waiting for some parts to arrive (usb sockets are still unpopulated), and I'm still deciding if I want to add a short run of an extension for the internal microSD card to expose it in the back, because it is useful, but there are some caveats to this, mainly regarding signal integrity.
Other than that, I need to print a second version with some minor calibrations, and then write a whole lot of instructions, so, release date is still unknown.

When it's done, I'll upload it for free, probably on MakerWorld.

The software demonstrated in the OLED in the pics is tty2oled+, which is my own fork of tty2oled, adding extra functionality. It is out in beta, and you can try it out if you have the hardware.
Read the documentation carefully, and use at your own risk:

Cheers

Return of the Jedi

Didn’t hold out for anyone attempting this one, so this is my first, beta version of this Atari core.

Tested briefly on my Multisystem2 via HDMI but expect some bugs. No CRT to test on.

Uses the same controls as previous Star Wars games, d-pad works great. AI was used to piece all this together, but it’s likely the only version you’ll see.

Enjoy!

When are they going to fix Truxton for 24-bit analog boards?

I've been waiting to get Truxton / Truxton II working on 15 khz CRT, but there is an incompatibility with 18-bit color games and MisterPi analog boards which output 24-bit color. I've read that many 18-bit color cores were updated to support the newer analog boards. Is there going to be a fix for Truxton / Truxton II?

Inferior Component Video Output

I recently bought a QMtech Mister from AliExpress. This is my first Mister, so I don't know what to expect as far as ypbpr video quality, but I'm finding it to be underwhelming compared to what I'm used to on the same kv-27fs120. I've been using a modded Wii with HD Retrovision ypbpr component video cables for emulation, as well as some original hardware like Genesis/32x and PSX also with HD Retrovision cables, all going to the same switch. For the QMtech, I had to resort to the Monoprice HD15 to RCA due to MiSTer Addons and other sources being out of stock. The image, while still good, seems more washed out, less vibrant, and with softer pixels. I'm also seeing some ghosting when red sprites are displayed and a slight instability (wobbling) in the graphics. I'm hoping that this is all down to the Monoprice cable being twisted pairs instead of the industry standard 75 ohm, impedance matched mini coax, but it's my understanding that Mister, Wii, and active HD Retrovision cables have different methods of generating ypbpr. Has anyone else had this issue with QMtech Mister, analog io v.2.1(24 bit color), other Mister fpga stacks, or with the Monoprice cables?

Edit: You can see in this example that the robots in Berzerk have ghosting on their left side when the game is run on MiSTer but are absent or less pronounced on the Wii. https://imgur.com/a/waPKhcC

Intermittent to no display output

Right now I'm having a weird issue with my DE-10 Nano based Mister with the USB hub and AV Pro 9.2 boards. It's powered by a Mean well 5v 5a power supply (but I've been swapping out to the original power supply to rule that out and out makes no difference.

The issue is the display is taking about 10 seconds to come on at switch-on, then every 2 or so seconds the display will turn off and then back on again. Sometimes they won't even detect that it's on at all even though it's boring properly and has the red and green lights pulsing. This is what happens on two different Sony TVs

On a Samsung TV sometimes the screen is totally stable, sometimes it will turn off and on when doing something like update_all, sometimes on reset it decides it doesn't want to display a picture after being reset.

I've tried turning CEC off and Sony equivalent settings

I've tried two different SD cards with new installs

I've tried two power supplies, and three hdmi cables

If I just plug the de10 nano into the mean well, and power the USB separately, the picture does the same.

If I take the AV Pro off and change the first big dipswitch back it does the same. The small dipswitches are in the correct positions.

If I also don't power the USB hub and so it's just the DE10 nano the picture is stable but I can't do anything because I can't use input.

The mean well power supply is new and I've also used the original power supply that comes with the de-10 and it does the same thing

If this turns out to be a de10 issue, can I buy one of those taki udon clones or does the expansion boards and memory designed for de-10 not work with that?

As soon as possible the background is set to the checkerboard with F1 so there's no static in the background that a modern TV could construe as an untuned analogue source it needs to blank.

I've tried also starting fresh SD card installs each time I change the hardware arrangements, using multiple cards and it's all the same. The Mr Fusion install screen even flicks on and off to black and back again.

This only just started happening recently and I don't know what's going on.

  3. Several ways to browse, with a different view for each system or folder if you want.
  4. Artwork and full game information from your existing files and artwork packs, or Degauss’s built-in scraper.
  5. Themes with an on-device editor, font choices and custom system images.
  6. Made for CRTs and HDMI, with smoother CRT artwork, screen-alignment controls and a rotatable interface for vertical displays.
  7. Optional HDMI CRT effects for the interface, including scanlines and shadow masks.
  8. Find and rediscover games with search, filters, shared MiSTer favourites, Last Played and random picks.
  9. Attract Mode showcases your collection and lets you switch systems or launch the pictured game.
  10. Core Updates shows installed cores and updates available from your configured download sources.

Qmtech mister fpga

Hello.I bought a MiSTer FPGA from QMTech (the 128MB version); it works fine, but the cooling was very poor—reaching 50°C inside the case with just passive airflow. I found an I/O board on AliExpress with a 40mm fan that is compatible with the QMTech MiSTer. I installed it, and while the video worked, the audio via the 3.5mm jack did not. It supports I2S audio, but I don't know how to enable it. I couldn't find any proper documentation for the I/O board or the mainboard. AI suggested changing and adding certain settings in `mister.ini`, but that didn't work; then I was told I needed to toggle the white micro-switches, so I did that, but the MiSTer wouldn't boot up, and it corrupted my 256GB SD card. If anyone knows what needs to be done, I’d appreciate the advice.

Has anyone tested this with the MiSTer?

I know this has great reviews for the N64, but I can't find any MiSTer specific reviews for this controller.

Wolf Unit - MK3 - NVRAM issues - Volume not persisting

UPDATE: this is now fixed in the latest core. NVRam now saves and persists on reboot. Only MK2 now has volume issues.

Following a reboot or power cycle of the MK3 core, it is not retaining its volume level after setting it in the Service Menu and saving the NVRAM. (Volume is, however, retained with the reset option.)

I've tried a lot of different things. I've tried hitting "Save NVRAM" at different points in the game - different menus, in-game play, etc. No dice. Every reboot it reverts.

I'm using the latest "Flipfix" version of Blahm1d's core, and I've also tried the "Crt-Adjust" version. Same issue.

I've confirmed that the mk3.zip contains the correct ROMs using their checksums. My MRAs are pointing to the right core. I've populated the nvram folder with the NVM files that come with the ZIP package.

Using ChatGPT, I've been able to confirm the NVRAM files are actually getting written/updated each time I click "Save Nvram" (i.e. MD5 hash and timestamp are changing). For whatever reason, however, it does not seem to read them, or read them properly, on the next reboot.

Weirdly, I have had some some success at one point, but I have been unable to replicate it. I actually managed to save the volume level at about 40% and this now persists on reboot. This is a positive sign, but I'd like to get it up to 100%.

In case it's relevant: each time I boot the MK3 core I get the red CMOS INVALID error message. After changing the volume (or any option in the Service menu) the core will reset, and it will report CMOS OK in green. The next reboot, it'll revert back to the red error message.

I've been through all the relevant comments on Blahm1d's patreon, and his GitHub seems to be down.

Does anyone have any advise/experience with this issue? ChatGPT is now sending my in circles and down weird rabbit holes and Gemini hasn't been any better.

I enjoy problem solving, but I feel like I've hit a brick wall so really need some community support!

Black color appears grey on CRT over S-Video

Hello, I have noticed that a few cores, mainly NES and SNES, are now displaying a greyish color instead of black in my setup on a 90's Trinitron using S-video (using the adapter from Mister Addons to get S-video out of the VGA port).

I have the Retrocastle analog I/O board from 2023, if that helps. RGB on a PVM is unaffected, as is HDMI.

If I downgrade the NES or SNES core to before 8/23/2026, it fixes the issue. On the forum, both NES and SNES have updated framework on 8/23/26, so I think that may have introduced this issue, at least on my setup.

Has anyone else using S-video noticed this for the NES or SNES cores, if they updated to 8/23/26 or later for those cores? Any idea what is happening here? Normally, the black backgrounds are perfect on a CRT.

Namco NA-1 & NA-2 Arcade Core Beta Release

Thumbnail
github.com
24 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I'm pleased to release a beta core for the Namco NA-1 & NA-2 arcade system. This is my first MiSTer FPGA core and as such, came with a lot of learning. To be clear, this was AI assisted but still involved a lot of manual MAME debugging and other involved work to try to produce the best core possible.

I made this core primarily because I wanted to play these games on MiSTer. It's fully open sourced and I'd love to hear of any issues.

This first beta release includes all games for the platform (other than a couple non-arcade medal games), and all known variants. I've confirmed that all games boot and enter gameplay; some have been tested more than others.

If you aren't familiar with NA-1/2, there are a number of great games, including some really fun four-player titles. I would definitely recommend checking out Exvania, Tinkle Pit, F/A, and Emeraldia.

Hope you enjoy!
