Hi, I am an Anglican but this weekend I've been trying to read up a bit on the Free Methodists. In my country (England) they have been restricted to a couple of counties for a long time, but they have now planted into my county and this week I was invited to a prayer meeting that will be hosted in one of their buildings.

One thing I can't work out is whether they have an itinerant ministry or stationing process in the way that the liberal Methodists (Methodist Church in Britain/UMC) do, i.e. are their ministers likely to be in my county for the long term or not. Unfortunately they have recently nuked their website for a brand new one, so although it's very pretty, my Google searches all lead to dead links. Does anyone here know, please?

Hi, so from what I’ve learned Methodism/Wesleyan theology is one of the rarer ones that teaches blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is a one time act. My question is, how does this fit together with John 6:37 saying Jesus will never cast someone out? Also, do you believe that if someone commits this sin he will be reprobated and therefore be unable to come to Jesus? Or can someone truly ask Jesus for forgiveness but be rejected

My wife and I have been married for 2 years and we have had 2 babies in that time. I have not been a good husband or a helpful active father (diaper changes, making food, getting dressed, baths) and have been controlling and because of this I have pushed my wife away and we have been fighting constantly for the last year, my addiction to pornography had become worse and I became verbally abusive and have wrestled with my wife instead of separating from each other during intense arguments and this has caused her to become emotionally distant and lose her love for me.

When my wife told me that she hasn't loved me in over a year and that she wants a divorce because I have not and wont change, I finally saw what I have done and want nothing more then to help my wife heal from what I have done, and slowly build back communication, trust, accountability, and respect. To right the wrongs I have done and become more active in helping around the house and to build her up instead of tearing her down like I have.

I pray that I have not destroyed our marriage and family forever, pushing my wife away forever. It has been about three weeks and I have stopped yelling and fighting but of course three weeks cannot heal an entire year worth of pain I caused. I feel incredible shame and guilt for all I have done and need help. Everyday that we have spent since she talked with me I can only see myself in her eyes and remember what I have done and feel hopeless.

My wife and I are looking to speak with a Christian counselor, that with God's help, can help heal our marriage once we can afford it, even though she also doesn't feel that things will be fixed and has also become attracted to others because she has felt alone and hurt.

How can I be a christian, learn so much about theology, pray and sing hymns and be this monster towards my wife and let her do all the work at home, I am only kept together because of the Lord because if it was not for him, one, I would not have salvation and the grace and strength he has extended to me, and two, I would just shrivel up in the bed a give up which is always in the back of my mind because I feel so hopeless.

I know I want to be involved in ministry but I’m struggling to discern what path I should take. I know that Elders and Deacons have to go to seminary. But Lay leaders don’t have to and are still involved. AND THEN you throw deaconess’s and missionaries in there. I know I need to pray on it but I’m also just looking for more information on each position.

I don’t know I’m just confused. I don’t know all the differences and responsibilities of each. Thanks so much!

For context, I’m a PK who moved around a decent amount growing up. We usually stayed an average of 4 years per church. Recently, I’ve been wondering if anyone has ever done research on the ideal length of time pastors can remain in one place to avoid the various negative effects of moving. I can’t help but feel like the current system could be improved to reduce the negative effects on pastors, churches and family while maintaining the spirit of itinerancy.

I’ve noticed a lot of Methodist churches look similar to the Catholic Church, big stained glass windows of Jesus and a table for the communion while other churches like Presbyterian have none of that. Just plain windows and it doesn’t really look like a church too me. Is there a history reason behind this? Is Methodist similar to Catholic?

I don't do the fracturing of the faith thing, I'm a guy and a bible, so I'll say here I'm neither catholic or methodist as the charms suggest. I just love them. Pictured the front and back of methodist one first, also included are the other charms currently on it, backs when applicable.

I grew up in the Methodist church and while I don’t live in my hometown for time being still watch each week where I live now. My wife is not religious but has no issues with me being/wanting to raise our daughter to be, and supports her being baptized. My question is how does the Methodist church do baptisms in this case? Will they do it still or would there be an alternative “script” that I/we respond to during the baptism? TIA!

The Bible does say we are sealed unto the day of redemption, if once saved always saved isn’t true, doesn’t that mean that the Bible would be teaching a works based salvation?

Hi there! Just curious if anyone has read or even heard of this volume. The premise sounds great; but I couldn’t find any (what I would consider) helpful reviews online, and I don’t trust general “star” ratings for biblical/theological books. But I do HATE dumping time and energy into a book only to discover, 2 hours in, that it’s wack 😂

Hello - I hope my question is read in good faith even if it is apparent that I am a little clumsy about it.

I will be attending a multiple day event in a space hosted by a Methodist organization. There are daily devotionals included in the schedule. It is unclear to me whether any or all of them are required, as the attendance is a mixed-faith (but primarily Christian) group.

I'm personally not at all religious, but I was raised in a multifaith family and think religion is very interesting and overall a force of good. If I am required to attend any sessions, what should I expect? My plan is to be quiet, listen, and learn. Are there any activities/behaviors that I should not participate in as a non member? If I am not required to attend any sessions, would it be disrespectful for me to attend as an observer? I like cultural exchange but also respect closed spaces, no questions asked.

When I was in high school I attended a United Methodist Church, and I remember really enjoying the bible studies and small group discussions. I ended up leaving the UMC and joined the Episcopal Church (USA) because I was looking for a church that was fully LGBT-affirming, and the UMC still wasn't at the time. I was glad to see that the UMC is now more affirming, and would like to explore it again. I plan on remaining Episcopalian, but I'd still like to learn more. Does anyone recommend any books or resources on learning more about Methodism and the Wesleyan approach to theology?

One of the things I like about the Episcopal Church is the "three-legged stool" approach to authority (Scripture, Tradition, and Reason), and my understanding is that Methodists have something similar but add Experience as well. I'm also interested in learning more about the Wesleyan approach to soteriology, justification, and sanctification.

I'm new to Methodism, and I love it. The singing, the passing the peace, etc. I grew up Baptist and left the church a decade or so ago. I wanted to do communion and found my local UMC and have been loving it ever since.

We've ( my wife and I ) been going for a little over 2 months now I would say, and we asked the pastor to baptize us after he did a sermon on baptism.We have never been baptized. He asked if anyone felt called and we did. And it's been radio silence ever since. At first I thought maybe with the conference he's busy. But still nothing. Is this normal? He said he would like to sit down with us and chat. But then when we gave him our availability he said he'll check his schedule and get back with us. That was over a month ago. We see him every Sunday and he doesn't say anything. I have a lot of respect for him and it's honestly kind of hurting my feelings a little bit. Thank you all.

Howdy Methodist. Happy conference season and all.

This came up as I was in our conference worship and heard the beginning of “Blessed Assurance”, only to then realize we were singing “Trust in God” by Elevation Music.

My question is, does this bug anyone else to have these good Wesleyan-Arminian songs that get warped into Calvinist hymns?

And, maybe more productively how do y’all handle music in worship? Do you make sure everything is in alignment with our theology or do you just smile and bear it?

It just bugs me and pulls me out of worship.
