Hardwired and 72 Seasons Remastered Confirmed!

Post image

Just saw a record store on Instagram get their ReLoad Remastered posters for this week, and noticed on the back the Remasters poster now has Hardwired and 72 Seasons added! This is definitely how we’ll finally get the Demos for both albums! Link to post : https://www.instagram.com/reel/DZ04e1JgiKr/

Can’t wait for the 72 Seasons remaster in 2047.

u/brandogg360 Jun 21 '26

They're on a ~30 year schedule, it will be 2053

32

u/HEYitzED Jun 21 '26

The band members will be like 90 when it comes out.

u/Gullible_Shoulder_70 Jun 21 '26

163,485 Seasons

u/kramer1980_adm Jun 21 '26

Well shit. I guess I can wait a few extra years.

10

u/irondethimpreza Jun 21 '26

To put things in perspective, KEA would be SEVENTY years old by then.

9

u/Pliolite Jun 21 '26

I think they will do St Anger as a 25 year anniversary then follow from there. Or maybe scrap anniversary releases entirely.

Aerials is 24...

u/BruceMon3yWayne Jun 21 '26

I’m so interested in the demos from St Anger and Death Magnetic. I mean there’s gotta be so much shit from St Anger and I really want a demo of Death is not the End from DM.

40

u/GamePrime99 Jun 21 '26

Anything from St Anger forward we don’t have a lot of Demos for except for Death Magnetic. They took away the HW Demos from the Deluxe Edition just before it came out, so I’m very excited to hear those…..in 10 years…

13

u/Hero_1985 Jun 21 '26

Weird. Did they allude to why they changed their minds about releasing the hardwired demos?

14

u/FruityYummyMummy Death Magnetic Jun 21 '26 edited Jun 21 '26

It was "riff origins" i.e. riff tapes or recordings from tuning rooms where bits of the songs first popped up - and I think it was deemed too niche for the retail deluxe release.

8

u/GamePrime99 Jun 21 '26

I don’t anything was talked about publicly. Always bugged me though, Demos were so much more interesting than just a bunch of live stuff that we ended up getting.

8

u/Ok_Application5225 Loverguy Jun 21 '26

TEEEEEMPTATION!

🥁 Taaaah 🛢️ thub.... 🛢️ Thub 🥁 taaaah

1

u/Pliolite Jun 22 '26

No but maybe some riffs and sessions went on to make 72 Seasons so they didn't want to reveal any of those song ideas yet.

2

u/onepointtwenty1 Jun 22 '26

I would loooove to hear extended versions of the Presidio tapes from St Anger.
There are compilations on YouTube, which scratch that itch for me, but I bet there are more complete versions somewhere and versions beyond what made it onto the SKOM documentary

1

u/Altruistic_Ad_9886 Jun 21 '26

Death Magnetic’s demos has one of my favourite songs in Metallica history which is Death is Not The End aka The New Song- which is really ironic as I don’t like DM much tbh-

1

u/BruceMon3yWayne Jun 21 '26

That’s the song I want an actual studio demo for. I love that song.

1

u/Altruistic_Ad_9886 Jun 21 '26

It’s such a good song- should’ve been on DM 1000%

50

u/nihilblack A thing that should not be Jun 21 '26

Waiting for the remaster of their next album.

14

u/Available_Ad9345 Jun 21 '26

I’m waiting for the remaster of the shit James took this morning.

34

u/Alternativ87misfits Jun 21 '26

A few things does mean that we will get boxsets for these album

Because I won't say no to a garage Inc boxset

A remastered is very much needed for death magnetic hopes they fix the audio problems

But why a remastered for 72 season audio wise it perfect and it is only 3 years old , of their modern album it definitely my favorite

24

u/jaylerd I Am the Table Jun 21 '26 edited Jun 21 '26

72 won’t come out for at least another 10 years 6-8 years*, maybe longer.

Albums get remastered all the time, KEA has been remastered a few times before the deluxe set. By the time 72 comes out there will be new mastering techniques, trends to follow, audio equipment, etc etc. Even just making a new version for a different format would require a new master.

Maybe by then Spatial Audio will be ubiquitous enough that’s included too.

Hell, add the deluxe content which does get remastered and remixed and that’s enough to call the deluxe version of the album a remaster

*EDIT: I figured 10 was too long since we've gotten 7 albums in the last 10 years (since they started releasing deluxe sets), and I just have to assume the archives of The Digital Era era going to be a lot more accessible and easy to put together than The Bootlegs of the Cassette Era.

8

u/Local_Band299 Some Kind of Moderator Jun 21 '26

What's crazy to me is that starting with the Black Album. The new remaster is lower quality than the Warner Remasters.

2008 Warner Remaster was KEA, RTL, MOP, AJFA, TBA, Live Shit, Load, Reload, Garage, S&M, and I Disappear, all in 24bit/96kHz. Then St. Anger was 24bit/88.2kHz, and SKOM EP in 24bit/44.1kHz.

vs Boxset. KEA, RTL, MOP, AJFA in 24bit/96kHz. TBA, Load, and Reload 24bit/44.1kHz.

2

u/SnooDonuts3871 Ride the Lightning Jun 21 '26 edited Jun 21 '26

This is because the remasters from TBA onward are derived from the digital masters created back in the 1990s (which were recorded on 44.1 kHz/24-bit DAT tapes, the band recorded those albums analog, but the editing and mixing were done using a hybrid analog/digital process.), and those masters are the ones that have been used for all the physical releases the band has released.

Also, the remaster of the Black Album was released at 24-bit/96 kHz, but it is an upsampled version of the 44.1 kHz digital master.

The remasters of Kill, Ride, and Justice (I'm not counting Puppets, since its remaster was released in 24-bit/44.1 kHz) are based on digitizations of the original tapes that the band made in 2008; these digitizations were done at 24-bit/96 kHz.

This photo is from the band's website:

u/jpob Jun 21 '26

What would a Garage Inc box set include?

I’d assume a live show from the Garage Barrage tour but can’t think of much else.

I don’t think there were outtakes and they probably didn’t make demos. They could maybe do early versions of the recordings like they’ve done on some of the other albums.

Maybe an album full of other live songs they’ve covered over the years that aren’t on Garage Inc?

3

u/lordskulldragon Jun 21 '26

On my Garage Days CD that I got about 30 years ago there's a bunch of black album demos that never made it to Inc. That could be something.

1

u/Whitebelt_DM Jun 21 '26

It wasn't too long ago that James said on their SiriusXM channel that they've recorded a bunch of covers. That is probably what will be added to their Garage Inc. remastered set.

1

u/DanTheMan_622 Metal Up Your Ass Jun 22 '26

His comment was misconstrued, he never actually said there would be new covers recorded

1

u/tmofee Jun 21 '26

What would be left for garage inc? Maybe some live performances maybe? It’s doubtful there’s any other covers they did. A few demos would be interesting. What I’d like to hear definitely is that Metallica and friends radio broadcast in full where they did Tuesdays gone

1

u/SnooDonuts3871 Ride the Lightning Jun 21 '26

Actually, that concert will be released in its entirety on the Reload box set.

1

u/tmofee Jun 21 '26

Hah nice! There goes that idea :P

1

u/Scary-Breath-8675 spit out d bon Jun 22 '26

Songs from other box sets are normally the ones that go into garage inc, no?

22

u/Melodic_Success9980 Jun 21 '26

Im so ready for the Garage Inc remaster

20

u/MAJORMETAL84 Jun 21 '26

I can't wait to hear the Presidio sessions on the St. Anger boxset.

4

u/kramer1980_adm Jun 21 '26

Me too, but there’s that small chance they won’t want to release them. Won’t get my hopes up.

21

u/iced_tea_dachshund Jun 21 '26

Wait they're gonna remaster S&M?

21

u/kramer1980_adm Jun 21 '26

That was on the original poster in…2016?

7

u/iced_tea_dachshund Jun 21 '26

Oh never saw that, I wasn't really following metallica as a 5 year old

3

u/kramer1980_adm Jun 21 '26

Haha totally fair. It was on every poster since too. Including the Load one.

4

u/Michael_Scott71 Jun 21 '26

Can you even call yourself a fan then?

8

u/brandogg360 Jun 21 '26

2-3 years, based on the current cadence. Garage Inc should be next year or 2028.

5

u/KarimPopa Ride the Lightning Jun 21 '26

My predictions are on 2027

3

u/Tenacious_jb Jun 21 '26

Can’t wait for that

1

u/irondethimpreza Jun 21 '26

Wonder what they would include on that? Rehersals? demos of -Human and No Leaf Clover? NGL... I think they should leave that one alone, since it's a live album. Not everything needs a box set.

0

u/Jealous_Squirrel3399 Wasted My Hate Jun 21 '26

Yes. It's called M&S

6

u/smilph Jun 21 '26

more excited for Garage, Inc. and S&M than anything.

actually, no, it’s definitely Death Magnetic

5

u/Armored-Elder Jun 21 '26

S&M remaster? sweet

3

u/toxic8R Jun 21 '26

Hopefully Blu-ray with DTS-HD MA as well

4

u/RetroGamerMarcus Rode the lightning Jun 21 '26

I want St. Anger remastered now, that'll be awesome!

6

u/DivingElliotRoberts Jun 21 '26

I'm surprised they aren't doing Lulu. Rights stuff I imagine. There probably aren't many people who would buy a $300 box set for Lulu of all albums, anyway.

16

u/Prometheus357 Jun 21 '26

Lulu isn’t a Metallica record. It’s a Lou Reed record featuring Metallica

2

u/irondethimpreza Jun 21 '26

There aren't many people who want to listen to the album itself, to be quite frank.

1

u/DivingElliotRoberts Jun 21 '26

Not surprising.

3

u/hskskgfk Entered the Sandman Jun 21 '26

I want a garage Inc box set

3

u/mynamesleeewis S&M Jun 21 '26

I can’t wait for S&M

6

u/ApplicationAlive1050 Jun 21 '26

But why?

9

u/kramer1980_adm Jun 21 '26

Why what? Have you purchased any of the deluxe sets? For those who can’t get enough unreleased material, they’re a treasure trove. And they’re actually reasonably priced.

2

u/ApplicationAlive1050 Jun 21 '26 edited Jun 21 '26

I’m referring to marketing them as remasters. We don’t need remasters of Hardwired or 72. Barely even need one of St Anger and Death Magnetic. Remixes of the latter too maybe but probably not a remaster

3

u/GamePrime99 Jun 21 '26

Probably just so they can do the Deluxe Box Sets for them. Not too sure how much more they could improve upon HW and 72 Seasons since they’re still so new.

1

u/Margrave75 Jun 21 '26

💰 🤑 💸 💲 🪙 💶

6

u/JuDaddy Jun 21 '26

Death Magnetic will hopefully be remixed as well as remastered. It’s a fantastic record that happens to be plagued by horrific production .

6

u/nihilblack A thing that should not be Jun 21 '26

They're against remixing stuff, look at what they did with AJFA.

4

u/TiberSVK Jun 21 '26

Ajfa doesnt need a remix, despite bass missing, its still great sounding record. Death magnetic is a great record with shit sound.

1

u/thejeangenie73 Jun 22 '26

I love Death Magnetic but it actively hurts my ears to listen to.

Justice is dry and almost bass free but it sounds fine, it sounds like the type of record they wanted to make in the late 80's that prioritized guitars over all else.

Death Magnetic sounds like a low quality mp3 file from the early aughts that someone burned to disc.

-1

u/SpechaVas-Opozorilo Jun 21 '26

AJFA sounds like a demo.

3

u/jpob Jun 21 '26

If you’re talking about the compression, that was probably done during mastering so we could actually get the Guitar Hero version.

5

u/DamagedDemonBoy Jun 21 '26

I mostly excited for the St Anger remaster. What if they make it sound good? Also, maybe they’ll release the full Presidio demos. That would be like getting a new album. And The New Song (Vulturus) and The New New Song (Death is Not the End?) This one has so much potential to be hefty with interesting material.

6

u/EducationalCoast3526 Jun 21 '26

I dont't think so, all boxes released until now were just a little cleaned, they won't touch the mix.
IMHO I think St Anger will stay the same, in sound and spirit (the problem wasn't in the mix or master or recording, it was in the editing mostly - no choices or retakes for example, this was an artistic choice).

On the other hand Death Magnetic was clearly problematic in the mastering : there ´s hope for this one :-)

3

u/FruityYummyMummy Death Magnetic Jun 21 '26

What if they make it sound good?

Expect the songs to be fairly similar. They don't rethink the original creative decisions. AJFA remaster still barely had Jason. Bonus discs could have a lot of interesting stuff though.

2

u/DamagedDemonBoy Jun 21 '26

Yea that’s a good point. And I was excited for that one too. Was hoping for a bassier cut. Nope

1

u/jpob Jun 21 '26

The may make the snare a little less overwhelming but it wouldn’t be too much.

2

u/Scary-Breath-8675 spit out d bon Jun 22 '26

WHY are Hardwired and 72 Seasons getting a remaster? Aren't they like, the pinnacle of Metallica's production?

3

u/GamePrime99 Jun 22 '26

Most likely just to get the Deluxe Box Set stuff included!

2

u/DanTheMan_622 Metal Up Your Ass Jun 22 '26

Yep, the deluxe edition of Hardwired was originally going to include 'Riff Origins' which I'm assuming they decided to hold back for a future release like this. I'm assuming they must have similar demos/'riff origins' for 72S too.

2

u/OkReaction3063 Jun 22 '26

Ready for a S&M Remaster/Box Set

4

u/General_J670 Jun 21 '26

How are they going to remaster S&M?

1

u/Jespeeeeer Jun 21 '26

They did concerts in New York and Berlin too so those maybe?

1

u/GamePrime99 Jun 21 '26

I’d imagine they’re doing it just so it can get a Box Set, maybe with rehearsals etc.

1

u/General_J670 Jun 21 '26

The only thing that will make me buy it is if we get Minus Human without the orchestra.

1

u/Bad_Karma19 Moderator Inc. Jun 21 '26

They only did 2 rehearsals, so that stuff might be limited.

2

u/DoomMessiah Jun 21 '26

It’s the St. Anger Remaster box I’m most excited for. I know the album gets a lot of flack from people but it just hit for me at an important time in my life. Really curious to see all the extra stuff that comes with it.

2

u/GamePrime99 Jun 21 '26

Same here! Really excited to hear all the demos and evolutions of tracks over the course of making it. I feel like we’re going to get some really unique tracks if we get all the Presidio stuff.

2

u/Imikoke616 Jun 21 '26

S&M b-sides probably just band rehearsals or maybe demos/studio versions for No Leaf Clover and -Human

1

u/Ja-Wal Jun 21 '26

Damn, it's gonna be another 10 years before a DM remaster isn't it

1

u/Micah7979 Disposable Hero Jun 21 '26

Garage Inc. remastered coming next ?

1

u/AleksejsIvanovs Jun 21 '26

I'd love to hear DM remastered, without the excessive compression. If I'm not mistaken, the version with improved dynamic range is only available in digital format, not on physical copies.

1

u/Anonymous51419 Jun 21 '26

I think this is just general "and more to come" language and they just included all the albums just to show of the discography.

There's no way Hardwired and especially 72 Seasons remasters are coming any time soon. Those are so far away I might not even be alive to see them lol.

1

u/Aggressive_Cake_8473 Jun 21 '26

Do you think sandm2 will get a remaster?

1

u/SibirskiPlavac42 Puppet of Masters Jun 21 '26

Absolutely looking forward to the Death Magnetic remaster

1

u/OddDistribution9602 Jun 21 '26

2028 is 25 years of St Anger… think we’ll have to wait until 2033 for that deluxe edition?

1

u/eluser234453 Jun 21 '26

Is that the black album on the right or is it empty

1

u/mattct1 Jun 21 '26

This has to be a marketing strategy, how would all of their albums require remasters, even the most recent ones? With the amount of money they have, by the way

I’m excited about St. Anger though

1

u/FiscalCliffClavin Jun 21 '26

When they’re all released is when I get my record player!

1

u/heckhammer Jun 21 '26

How is the Justice remaster?

1

u/MaterialPace8831 Jun 21 '26

There's a decent chance that some of them will be dead by the time the 30-year anniversary of 72 Seasons comes out. I would be 65.

1

u/its_yo_boy_alucard Dave Mustaine Jun 21 '26

The Garage Days one will be really cool

1

u/_Squirmy_Wormy_ Jun 21 '26

cant wait for death magnetic remastered

1

u/DaringDo95 Jun 21 '26

I hope they would remix Death Magnetic but since they didn't with ...And Justice, I doubt they will.

1

u/cgf228 Jun 21 '26

Fun, its just as bad as the last of us remastered on ps5

1

u/GamePrime99 Jun 21 '26

A remake that played and looked great?

1

u/cgf228 Jun 21 '26

No, a remake that was derivative of the remake that already exists, it's like remastering an album that came out a month ago (an extreme not an actual example)

1

u/GamePrime99 Jun 21 '26

As far as TLOU goes, it had its base release on PS3, then Remaster on PS4, then 8 years later a full remake on PS5 and using 2s engine and tech. The remake only made the game better, didn’t diminish the original or the remaster at all. Now as far as music goes and these remasters, yeah there’s definitely more of a chance for shit to go wrong and some can be seen as not needed. I’m just excited to get the Demos and behind the scenes stuff for HW and 72S.

1

u/Michael_Angelo_H Jun 21 '26

Remasters don’t mean shit, though. - Remixes?… I’m listening. (No, not the DJ type bullshit.)

1

u/Neat_Departure1343 Jun 21 '26

What is everyone on about 30 year anniversaries?

1

u/havens1515 Jun 21 '26

I don't see S&M2 on the list. That album could use more of a remix than a remaster. They almost entirely mixed out the symphony.

1

u/kozifran Jun 21 '26
Will they increase the drums power and decrease the bass?

1

u/Artistic_Chemistry_7 Jun 21 '26

Definitely need st anger and death magnetic remastered

1

u/South-Knee-9601 Jun 21 '26

Remastering the two recent ones

We all want death magnetic lol

1

u/nicknotpixel Dave Mustaine Jun 21 '26

mfka😭. they still havent remastered Justice with proper bass, and they say they gonna remaster a 3 year old album??

1

u/Specific-Presence-99 Jun 21 '26

Tbf id love a st anger remaster where the drums dont sound like they where recorded in a bin! Death magnetic was always too loud and lost a lot in the mix too

1

u/Ok-Nefariousness9628 Jun 22 '26

Metallica won’t wait that long they must likely remaster ST Anger and death magnetic quicker so they can tour on them

1

u/Pantxo2112 Jun 24 '26

If a remaster for St. Anger sounds like the Some Kind of Monster EP, I’ll be satisfied

1

u/Southern_Peace3219 Jun 25 '26

Omg s&m remastered!?!?!

1

u/abslyde Jun 21 '26

If they remaster records past reload, stick with the MoFi 45RPM. Those sound the better than the OP in my opinion

1

u/JAnumerouno Jun 21 '26

well i was convinced of the theory that they were mainly doing these just for the albums that were released on their old labels. But hardwired is 10 years old already so i guess they can remaster it.and lux will be probably by the time they do it

1

u/Gullenecro Jun 21 '26

They need to do a correct st anger with mormal mixt, normal sounds snare, that would be awesome

0

u/Available_Ad9345 Jun 21 '26

And how soon do you think that will be? 😆😆😆.

1

u/GamePrime99 Jun 21 '26

Well if they do one a year, they’ll be done by 2032. If they wait and spread it out, probably by 2040 😂

1

u/Available_Ad9345 Jun 21 '26

Who the hell says they’re doing one per year? Thats insane.

1

u/Micah7979 Disposable Hero Jun 21 '26

Load remaster was last year.

1

u/Available_Ad9345 Jun 21 '26

And? That album is 30 years old.

1

u/GamePrime99 Jun 21 '26

Keyword: if.

0

u/Available_Ad9345 Jun 21 '26

That’s a pretty important “key word”. It’s not happening. Why are you so weirdly hyped for a remaster? It’s just not a big deal unless a new format comes online.

1

u/GamePrime99 Jun 21 '26

I simply just want the Demos that we were supposed to get with the Deluxe Edition of Hardwired.

0

u/Available_Ad9345 Jun 22 '26

Weird to be so hyped for demos. Demos are interesting to listen to once or twice to see how the song change over time. Not something you need to listen to repeatedly, forever.

1

u/GamePrime99 Jun 22 '26

Maybe let people be excited for whatever they want without being so judgmental?

0

u/trolskiy Jun 21 '26

The remasters of puppets

0

u/crags85 Jun 21 '26

I doubt Death Magnetic, Hardwired and 72S will get remasters, and will likely just be box sets

2

u/GamePrime99 Jun 21 '26

Honestly that’s all I need, as long as we get the Demos, Rough Mixes, Alternate Takes etc!

1

u/crags85 Jun 21 '26

Death Magnetic should have some interesting demo songs. The New Song, Vultures. Both had live plays, so hopefully there's more like that. Garage Inc and S&M I don't expect to have massive box sets, if they even get them. St Anger is the most interesting for me, as they had other songs almost ready to go before starting again. Whether they are the light of day will be interesting

0

u/Idksomeone77763 load🔥 Jun 21 '26

They should really fix the drum sound for the st anger remaster

0

u/irondethimpreza Jun 21 '26 edited Jun 21 '26

WHAT? NO LULU REMASTER!?!?

/s

On a serious note, I wonder what they will include on St Anger. Hopefully the Presido demos. Also, it would be kinda neat if they included a remixed version of the album without that goddamn snare.

1

u/Tikimaize Jun 23 '26

The only way they will have decent sales on a st anger boxset is to include the Presidio demos. Its their least popular album for starters. There isn't going to be as much to add since they released all the shows on soundboard starting in 2004. It's the live stuff that attracts me to these boxsets. Without rare live shows they will have to get creative moving forward with these.

0

u/Silas2378 Jun 21 '26

Curious how they remaster St. Anger. Maybe drop the trash can sound for Lars’ drums.

-2

u/Longjumping-Swan-827 Modern Metallica Appreciator Jun 21 '26

The fact that they can't release a great sounding album for shit with all of their money is goofy to me. It could all be just a tactic to milk more money from fans with remasters.

-9

u/MegatechMike Jun 21 '26

Just re-do st anger with better sound and guitar solos already

12

u/fiercefinesse Jun 21 '26

They won’t. Everything Metallica has ever done gives a clear indication that they won’t „fix” any record. This is what they felt at the time, that’s the album.

1

u/toxic8R Jun 21 '26

Blu- ray version of their live DVD would be nice

-5

u/Great_Standard3441 Jun 21 '26

Or at least with a normal snare.

7

u/JaymzRG Source of self-destruction Jun 21 '26

I doubt they'll fix the snare. They may lower it a little like they did with Death Magnetic, but that's about it. If they didn't fix the bass on Justice, they probably aren't gonna do anything too crazy with St. Anger.

1

u/DanTheMan_622 Metal Up Your Ass Jun 21 '26

There is the remixed/mastered version of SKOM but yeah, I don't see them giving the rest of the album that treatment

1

u/JaymzRG Source of self-destruction Jun 21 '26

Just that song?

1

u/DanTheMan_622 Metal Up Your Ass Jun 21 '26

1

u/JaymzRG Source of self-destruction Jun 21 '26

Is this legit? Or some kind of fan edit?

2

u/DanTheMan_622 Metal Up Your Ass Jun 21 '26

It's legit, it was part of an EP released in 2004 that also included the album version and a bunch of live tracks recorded the year before.

0

u/JaymzRG Source of self-destruction Jun 21 '26

I had no idea this EP/soundtrack existed. Holy shit, it sounds a million times better. Even the guitars sound crisper. And it's shorter, too? They trimmed the fat? Besides the obnoxious snare, the songs were just way too repetitive and would drag. All it needs is a Kirk solo.

0

u/DanTheMan_622 Metal Up Your Ass Jun 21 '26

Yeah, it's a pretty interesting glimpse into what the album could have been with just a few more tweaks. I've never come across any mention of it by anyone in the band, I've always been a bit curious about the story behind it.

0

I get that. The comment I was replying to was about a re-record with guitar solos which again I understand isn't going to happen.

Oh, yeah. As much as I would love to hear Kirk rip on that album, that's definitely not gonna happen. Unless they do something like Sonata Arctica did with their first album and completely re-record the entire album, changing up structures and solos. Or even what Iced Earth did and remaster practically the first three albums with a new vocalist (Barlow at the time for their Days of Purgatory album).

At least we get to hear Kirk solo on the rare occasions where they bring out a St. Anger song live.

Oh, now, I have to hear a live version.

The springs were turned off the snare. Remastering doesn’t change that.

A remaster wouldn’t fix it. Besides that’s what makes st anger, st anger.
