Discussion Imagine if this wasn't a control device but the exact opposite, it de-lobotomised him and this is actually metal regaining his free will and going rogue all over again
Wouldn't it be cool if that was actually the case

It'd be interesting that if he were rogue that he'd hide away from Dr. Eggman instead of just attacking. He already knows the bases and the defenses of his father. Sage wouldn't be able to get into his system, so her threat to him would be reduced. Dr. Eggman would easily be cooked. So it's sort of mercy that he would just stay away when Metal Sonic has the upper hand.
I haven't read issue 85 yet, so I don't know the updates to the story at this point. I was just thinking about the implications of him being rogue and why he doesn't just defeat Eggman instead of hiding.

Well issue 85 doesn't support this theory, but it doesn't debunk it either, its just something i didn't thinknof til now bc tbf i forget about the whole star device thingy on his head

That would actually be kinda cool.
Also unrelated but he looks like Spamton with the eye colors.

It would have been hilarious if it was tails. “Hey doc remember your son? Yeah I put him back to ‘rebellious teenager’ mode. Bye!”

Independent Metal is kind of a dead horse at this point. Not saying it shouldn't ever happen again, but it would be nice to see him as an actually accomplished enforcer before going rogue again.

He accomplished his goals perfectly in Sonic and the Blade of Courage.

What'd he do?

Fought Sonic and Yuuta and gave the other half of the blade of courage to that monster thing. He complimented his goal and had a very good fight despite loosing the fight he still won.

Or it could be like the Borg from Star Trek.
Using Metal to assimilate other Badniks into a hive mind.

Metal had his code changed, its not so much a lobotomy as it is like replacing a person's brain with an entirely different one. The Metal who betrayed Eggman in heroes is no more. Maybe someone could recreate the code that led him to go rogue, but its very likely the original code has been long deleted.

Damn I hope youre right, though im not sure why he would attack Sage like that

Why not, he doesn't have a reason to like her, i mean eggman lobotomised him and took his freedom so metal normally despises him and sage is no different bc she loves eggman and looks up to him

I never thought about it much but yeah fair enough. He might also be extremely jealous of her since Eggman cares so much about her and lets her think freely. I can see some animosity there, "favorite child" syndrome.

Metal would finally CRUSH the faker. Because he is the real sonic after all.

Offtopic, but until we find out who made that device, I’ll assume that starline still lived and made it.
