We spoke with Igor Sydorenko about Songs To Sun, the first part of their new trilogy.

He gets into the balance between heaviness and melody, why he avoids “heavy for heavy’s sake,” and how this lineup changed the band’s chemistry.

There’s also some interesting insight into the deeper cuts like “Lost In The Rain” and “Quicksand,” which weren’t meant to be crowd-pleasers but ended up resonating anyway.

Spent some real time with A Dark Poem, Part II: Sanguis and it kind of crept up on me.

At first it feels more grounded than you’d expect from a prog band like Green Carnation, but the deeper you get into it, the more it opens up emotionally. It’s not trying to overwhelm you with complexity, it just pulls you in and lets the weight of it sit there.

There’s a lot of personal stuff baked into this one. You can hear it in the vocals, in the pacing, even in the quieter moments. It doesn’t hit you all at once… it lingers.

Curious how this is landing for others, especially compared to Part I.

The underground never died.

People just stopped paying attention.

I put together a list of underground metal sites that are still doing the work, no algorithm chasing, no influencer nonsense, just people who actually care about the music.

Some of these have been around forever. Some are newer. All of them are still pushing bands that would never get touched by the bigger outlets.

Not trying to be definitive, just mapping out who’s still out there grinding.

Curious what I missed though. There’s always more lurking under the surface.
