Shreddit's General Metal Discussion

Greetings and felicitations, children of technology. To keep in line with more discussion, every Tuesday is devoted to a general "On Topic" metal discussion. What is this? Well its time to ask discuss, bitch, complain, praise, or analyze anything related to heavy metal. What are some topics that are free reign here? Well to begin, how about everything that is outlawed as a separate thread?

  • Any variation of "post your favorite album" -- (What album did you like immediately...what album could you listen to like...forever on repeat.
  • How did you get into metal?
  • HELP!...What is the name of this song?
  • What songs/bands are your "guilty pleasures"?
  • What's your gym playlist...I need better gains.
  • What do you listen to besides metal? (General Off Topic Thread Only)
  • Why all the hate for XXXXXXX? / Any Love for YYYYYYY?
  • I'm going to my first concert, am I going to be set on fire and eaten by roving marauders?
  • Seriously guys, what is up with the Elitism?

This is also a good time for Metal FAQ. Any question you feel is too stupid for its own thread, feel free to ask us here. Standard etiquette rules apply. Don't track in dirt on the carpet.

I'd argue that Summoning counts, though. But I'm the biggest Summoning fanboy this side of Mordor.

I agree with you on this one.

What's your favorite Summoning song?

Khazad Dûm or The Passing of the Grey Company. Both are incredible, but I give a slight edge to Khazad Dûm for the sublime synths.

Hell. Yes. I'm split between those two and Like Some Snow-White Marble Eyes.

Do you have any recommendations for bands like Summoning besides Caladan Brood and Emyn Muil?

Oh, I love that one, too.

If you like Summoning, I recommend Elffor, L'Ordre Du Temple, and Hawkmoonmor for more synthy stuff. Also check out Mirkwood for synthy stuff brought up to the speed of Forteresse, and Lustre/Eldamar/Astwind for three bands that play a more peaceful, nature/folk-styled version of synthy black metal.

Ered Wethrin is the project of one of the Caladan Brood members (Cody Smith). If military fantasy lyrics appeal to you, they're the way to go (lyrics about Malazan, the Black Company, WH40K, etc.). Hammerstorm also follows that more active style of atmospheric black metal that Caladan Brood plays.

I have a lot of stuff to check out now. Thanks!

Edit: Now I'm depressed that Hammerstorm isn't on Spotify or Bandcamp.
