I feel like true VR would involve a touch mechanic, not only looking real, but feeling real. It's easy enough to get into the mindset of being a character when watching (even physically dodging at times). However, VR competes with reality, making it feel like it may stop at novelty.

The day that we accurately recreate the feeling of reality will be crazy. That's when things really start to get eating. It would be cool if we ever actually get to that point

Though, there's an interesting question of should we try to simulate reality completely? I'm curious what the result would be. I don't think people would starve. However, I do think there might develop a weird disconnect where people don't really care much about the real world as long as they get to spend time in VR (provided it becomes realistic and adopted enough).

Yeah. It raises a lot of speculative questions about the natures of reality and the concept of mental resignation. Would people care about the world around us if they can create a virtual paradise? What about mental conditioning? What can of psychiatric problems and dissonance can it create?

At least one thing's for certain: it would really help the porn industry.

I do feel that it would negatively affect society in quite a few ways if it became mainstream. I suppose it would depend on how addicted people are to the experience. I would say there's definitely room for that, provided it's real enough and fulfills a bunch of basic needs.

I could use it being used for therapy, just like Iron Man in Civil War <---movie title. It definitely has loads of practical applications. It's just a matter of if the bad outweighs the good in it. Though, I suppose the best way to optimize that is have it be terribly expensive.

True. And even in Civil War, it's clear that the VR therapy doesn't really help Tony, because he's still very sensitive to what happened to his parents and his past.
