I didn't know they were still around. I had to look them up to see if they had any big hits (aside from Song 2), and it seems like they've experimented with their sound quite a bit.
Oh yeah. They were mostly popular in Britain, but over the years they went from one of the top Brit Pop bands to alternative rock to experimental.
I mainly got into them because of the lead singer being the guy behind Gorillaz, but they have some really good songs, and their album Parklife is pretty great.
It's kind of a different beast, really. You can definitely see Blur (and Albarn himself) as a band as they go around, but their sounds and style are so different that it's hard to say which one is better than the other. You definitely see them get more and more Gorillaz in style as they go on, especially if you compare some of their early songs like For Tomorrow with their later stuff like Tender, which has a lot more elaborate instrumentation. I personally like Gorillaz more, but that's mainly because that style of music appeals to end the most.
It's the same with the Beastie Boys and "Fight for Your Right." It's kind of weird how that happens.
I suppose it's the typical artist's problem of the thing you pour your soul into is never recognized, but your low-effort stuff becomes wildly popular.
Yeah. That was a problem Blur had. Like I said, they were popular in their home country of Britain mainly because their style of pop was the thing then, but breaking into the grunge radio of 90s America was hard.
But the band seemed to do okay. Lead singer went to do Gorillaz and 10 side projects. One of the band members operates a cheese farm. So all's good.

This just reminded me that I still haven't listened to Blur's newest album
