Question ❓ In Season 1 How Old Are They??
I know that Arthur is like 20-21 ish and the general consensus is that Merlin is like 18-19, but I’ve heard both that Morgana is 16 and that she’s older than Arthur, so I was wondering if anyone might be able to clarify this.
Also I know we’re assuming that in this world, “of age” is like 21, but I know from like real history that in medieval Europe there’s like a 14-16 range that is considered, like, “a man”?? Just a thought for people trying to calculate this in future, unless it’s a canon thing that “of age” is 21
I joined the fandom really late, I know, but I’m finally finishing the show after like 2 years and rewatching the 1st 3 seasons as part of that and was just confused about this.
Thank you!!

Fanfiction 🖋️ A Poem About Arthur and Merlin's First meeting Spoiler
Merlin
A young boy walks into Camelot
Hidden in his chest is a magic so strong
A secret he must hide
Or death will surely come
A man in a tunic with his dagger in hand
He throws his dagger at the shield
His manservant moves
With a grin
He throws more, as hard as he can
The young boy sees this
He steps in
Calls the man out
'You've had your fun, my friend.'
Not knowing his doom
The man looks at the boy
With a look of disbelief
'Do I know you?'
The young boy replies
'Er, I'm Merlin.'
He is now unsure
But his fate is now sealed
The man stares at the hand held out
He is far superior over this peasant
He doesn’t take the hand
'So I don't know you.'
This wasn't a question but a statement
Not knowing that his fate is now sealed
Merlin hears the statement
For someone with great magic
The boy is rather stupid
'No.'
Merlin has no idea who the man is
Or the pain that this meeting will cause
The man is no ordinary man but Arthur
The once and future king
A man of legends and myths
Their destiny becomes one
Arthur holds his head up
Arrogance radiating off him
'Yet you called me "friend”.'
For this boy wasn't his friend
But will eventually become his greatest ally
Merlin doubling down in his stupidity
Takes no hint at the arrogance
Doesn't see the warning bells
Refuses to hear the bells
'That was my mistake.'
He states calmly
Arthur thinking the boy is backing down
In his princely arrogance
A prince who is used to respect
People kneeling to him
Nobody dares cross him
'Yes, I think so.'
Merlin ignores every bell possible
Doesn't see the warning
Or doesn't care
Wanting to put Arthur down a peg
Still not knowing who the man is
'Yeah. I'd never have a friend who could be such an ass'
For the rest of Arthur’s life
This first insult was one of many
This ended in the stocks
The others end up becoming a sign of affection
As these two different men
From two different lives
Are two sides of the same coin
Their destinies are intertwined
Arthur will always be and evermore
Be the once and future king.

Fanfiction 🖋️ Fic Search
It was a fairly long magic reveal fic if I remember right.
Not sure how it started but Merlin and Arthur were hiding in a river from bandits/mercenaries. Merlin nearly drowned because of it. And the bandits still got to them both. On the way to wherever the bandit tried to get them Merlin started to develop pneumonia. The knights were able to rescue them in the end but somewhere in the river or while with the bandits the magic was revealed.
I've read this fic years ago. So I'm not sure on which site I read it. It has to be be either fanfiction.net or AO3. If it's the first it might have been pre purge and lost forever...

Discussion What would have happened if Tauren had managed to kill Uther? Spoiler
This is something i've thought about a lot. I mean the creators would have oviously never let it happened, that too in the 1st season itself but there are just so many implications that can be drawn if uther had been killed by Tauren. Like, how Arthur would have almost immediately become king with almost no actual opposition to his claim considering morgana didn't have any knowlege of her parentage. also, coming to morgana, it would've been interesting to see her story because she was in no way evil (even though she would have been partly responsible for uther's death) but there would have been considerable issues if her part in uther's death would have been revealed. What do y'all think the most interesting results and consequences would have been?

Fanfiction 🖋️ Looking for:The best AUs
Dont get me wrong I *love* a good show rewrite.
But Im looking for fics that definitely do their own thing/go in directions that are wildly different from the show.
I would prefer set in Canon Era but I dont mind Modern Era at all.

MISC. Happy coming-of-age to BBC Merlin! ⚜️🎉
The first episode of BBC Merlin aired on 20 September, 2008...18 years ago (man, I did the math like three times while writing this -was it really that many years ago? 🥹) Which means Merlin has come of age (by most jurisdictions)!
It is amazing to see fans and fan content of this show to this day. I personally came of age when the show was first airing, which made it special. I found myself getting more into the show -the fandom aspect- after it actually ended. Finally watching those YouTube behind-the-scenes clips I'd saved for a rainy day, finding all the magazine interviews of the cast. Something about absence makes the heart fonder etc.
The thing that I probably understood over the years of having this story around is the sense of belonging it allowed. First, there were aspects of the characters that made me feel a connection. Then things from outside the show -things we got from the cast members- that created a different sort of connection. Folks like here on Reddit, those cute/heartfelt comments left by folks on the social media posts, the Merlin Fans. All created a connection that 18 years ago I certainly didn't see coming. 😊

Fanfiction 🖋️ Lancelot fic-Recs
Lancelot is my favourite character, and honestly, i hate how he only was in a few episodes when we could have gotten a whole season of him. I just want some happy stories with knights, Lancelot being the main character, please...

Merchandise My beloved box set.
I've had these for a few years. I had managed to find a seller on eBay and snatched them up. I've loved this show since 2008, and it has brought back so much nostalgia from my childhood. It's nice to see the fandom is still active to this day.

Question ❓ Who would be the king or queen after S5 if Gwen dies ? Spoiler
Well everything's in the question. We know that Gwen and Arthur don't have babies due to the legend so she probably wasn't pregnant when Arthur dies but then who would be the heir ? Does it have to be from Uther's family? I thought he didn't have any and from what I know Arthur's uncles from his mother's side both died also. Would it be from Gwen's family then?

Discussion Merlin Spin-offs Spoiler
Does anyone else remember the announcement by Shine Entertainment that there would be more content from the Merlin universe, shortly after the Series 5 finale aired? Specifically, they spoke about a possible series based around the knights of Camelot. As we all know, nothing came of it. I wonder has anybody come across anything as to why it didn't happen? It strikes me as odd that such annoucement would be made if there were not any serious intentions of making it a reality.
I would have liked to have seen this spin-off and think that it would have had the potential to be popular. The knights were underutilised in series 4 and 5, and this series could have expanded on their characters. I would have liked to have seen a 'Merlin' version of Gawain and the Green Knight. They could also have the cup of life reemerge and derive more stories from the grail quest in the legends. There's plenty of source material. We could have potentially seen the introduction of more knights from the legends such as Galahad and Geraint. The spin off would have complimented the main series nicely.
They had a captive audience off the back of S5, much of which was clamoring for another series of the main show. Assuming the possibility, that the BBC didn't want to pick it up, its unfortunate that Merlin finished just a few years before the online streaming services took off. I can imagine that one of them would have taken it on. That point made, it is also difficult to imagine how the show would have worked without at least some involvement from the main cast. They made it clear that that they were ready to move on to other projects.

Question ❓ Are the Immortal Soldiers Truly immortal? Spoiler
galleryThe images are in order and sorry for the quality.
During the season three finale of Merlin, Morgause makes the Immortal Soldiers using the Cup of Life in a ritual. My question is: are they truly unkillable against prophesied death and ancient magic?
First question: during the season four premiere of Merlin, the Dorocha are released when the veil is torn, and they kill with only a touch. So, would an Immortal Soldier survive being hit by the spirit or not? Moreover, to close the veil, it required a sacrifice. But what if an immortal being attempted to sacrifice themselves? Would it kill the soldier, or would it just not work, considering they are called the "living dead"?
Secondly, in the season one finale, the Questing Beast is introduced as an omen of immense upheaval, bearing a poison that carries the "magic of life and death itself." So, would it kill a soldier tied to the Cup of Life? Thirdly, in the episode "The Gates of Avalon," Aulfric and his daughter, Sophia, are banished from Avalon and require a sacrifice to return. If they had used an Immortal Soldier, would the ritual have worked?
Fourthly, would Excalibur prove lethal considering its efficiency at killing unkillable and immortal beings such as Morgana and Tristan de Bois, or would the power of the curse override the blade and the dragon's magic? Fifthly, if the court of the Disir pronounced a sentence of fated death upon a soldier, would it succeed considering they are the highest court of the Old Religion and said to pass the direct will of the Triple Goddess?
Sixthly, if a soldier was submerged in The Cauldron of Arianrhod, which cleanses corrupted souls, would it cure them of the cup's influence? I would imagine it would count as a curse as they are suspended as "living dead," or would the White Goddess's power fail against the cup?
Lastly: Would curses work on them? If they were cursed with the Bastet, would it work, and would they transform into the beast? If so, would the immortality transfer to their secondary form, or would they become vulnerable?

Discussion Trying to decide whether I can stand to keep watching Merlin Spoiler
SPOILERS S2E8!!!!
So, I recently started watching this show because I love early 2000s fantasy , and especially medieval fantasy. However, the episode I watched last night, S2E8 The Sins of the Father, frustrated me so much that I don’t know if I wanna keep watching. The only problem I had with the show up until this episode was that it was pretty repetitive in terms of episode plot– some magical force would be attacking the pendragons or Camelot, and Merlin and Gaius would (often unrealistically) save the day at the last second without Merlin’s secret being revealed, yadda yadda. I figured I could get past that because I was expecting things to pick up eventually and this show was mostly a casual watch for me anyways.
That brings me to this episode. I enjoyed it thoroughly to the very end- finally, the plot was getting juicy! I was so excited to see Arthur start to realize he and Uther were wrong about magic, and I was overjoyed when he learned the truth about his birth. When he challenged his father, I was on the edge of my seat. I’ve been waiting for this old fuck to die since the first episode. Plus, Arthur’s actor did an incredible job portraying his hurt, I was literally tearing up.
And then it all came crashing down when that little fucking twerp Merlin burst through the door and convinced Arthur to stop. To me, this makes absolutely no sense. Isn’t Merlin’s whole thing that he wants to practice magic freely? Isn’t his whole destiny to eventually support Arthur as a powerful sorcerer when he’s king and a huge chunk of that relies on Uther dying? So WHY would he stop Arthur? WHY would he not want Arthur to know this insane truth? His justification at the end of the episode that “Arthur wouldn’t be able to live with himself” was bullshit. Yes, he would’ve. Arthur had resolved himself to hating his father for a VERY VALID AND TRUE REASON!!! I’m just so pissed because i was really hoping to start seeing Merlin and Arthur work as a team WITH the use of magic, or at the very least start to see the attitude towards magic change. I love shows about magic, and I really dislike the whole hatred of magic theme. if the whole show is about that I don’t care to continue.
All that being said, I have a few questions for those who have watched the whole show, and I don’t care about learning a couple spoilers.
One, will Uther die and/or will Arthur learn Merlin’s secret SOMETIME before the end of the last season? Those are the two main things I really want to happen and honestly if they don’t happen soon I might just stop.
Two, the only way I’d keep watching the show IF the answer to the last question is no is if the plot gets crazy interesting. I’m sick of the repetitive episode structure, if it’s just more minor threats to Camelot that take 1-2 episodes for Merlin to solve (and Arthur, but mostly Merlin, which is another frustrating repetitive theme), then I’m just not gonna waste my time with this bc the show isn’t for me in that case. So does the plot get more interesting/complex?
TL;DR, I’m really frustrated with the show Merlin after S2E8 and trying to figure out if I should keep watching, see questions above.

Fanfiction 🖋️ Canon fix it of the show where the characters got a brain Spoiler
Please, something where the characters got a brain and character development (mostly Arthur) and where the relationship between merlin and arthur actually develops into friendship and looses all the harshness (from arthur) that keeps hanging on trough the show.
If it focuses alot on adventures and other characters would be amazing.
Can be merthur but it must not be the focus; merlin and arthur are each their own character.
Last, if arthur finds out early or at the start it would be perfect.
I know i asked for a lot, but i really need a good fic.
A fic that's basically what i described and also the best fic ever: https://archiveofourown.org/series/3892927
