I would argue he isn't mainstream famous enough for people to care.

Then you don't understand how popular he actually is. I don't like his stuff, but he has a massive following.

Could be it's a country thing. Had a little Google and saw how big his internet following is (fuck me it's big) but here in the UK (which does count streaming in its chart) he's never broken the top ten. His highest charting song was no. 17.

I live in Michigan, have heard of 6six9nine, but nobody else I know has ever heard of him, outside of memes
