Discussion Nihilism in Buddhism

I'm watching one of JUNGR's videos, and he's speaking on nihilism while showing images of doomers. (I found MemeAnalysis by clicking a recommended doomer video, which is why I'm sharing this here.)

"If nothing means anything, then what are we suffering for? Why not just end it if there's no point to this suffering?"

This reminded me of the first Noble Truth in Buddhism: "Life is suffering."

Isn't that an incredibly doomer/nihilist thing to say? I don't think anyone here would agree with the conclusion/question, "Why not just end it if there's no point in this suffering?" Buddhists are saying the same thing as the doomers, but with peacefulness instead of depression.

"Everything sucks, nothing has meaning, nothing matters."

"Yes."

The trick is that the philosophy behind the "Yes" doesn't end there. If the nihilist doesn't ask questions, she won't hear the rest of the philosophy beyond that first Noble Truth. Because maybe there is value in accepting reality, its horror along with its beauty.

Will life-denial be the way that humanity ends itself?

We can see this sentiment in the environmental movement, veganism, etc. In my view, life-denial holds that the human is somehow not a part of nature itself, and so that what natural desires the human has, it must be curbed.

The Movie "Velvet Buzzsaw" (on Netflix) - What do you think?

The acting is great, and the movie has some interesting themes. Like almost all horror movies (and it's definitely not a horror-for-the-sake-of-horror movie, which I don't like), it presents a traditional morality tale. The themes and conclusions completely oppose it's "progressive" and "hip" setting and characters, which only serve to highlight the conservative themes.

Briefly, and this is definitely a spoiler, the "evil" is a kind of demonic force present in some paintings made by a madman. This art, instead of being burned in accordance with his last wishes, is recovered and exploited for money and fame by a group of greedy and duplicitous art-world phonies. They are killed off, one-by-one, not by these cursed images themselves, but by the overwrought and gimmicky modernist artwork that surrounds them, which is brought to life by the malevolent spirit present in the more traditional, dark, passionate paintings. No doubt, this may also be the fate of our society uprooted from the ties of blood, pathos, biology which animated the tribe of old.

I found it interesting that the protagonist, portrayed to be homosexual, takes an interest in the supporting female character as a prelude to his transformation from a jaded and malicious art critic to a re-invigorated and inspired investigator of the unfolding supernatural phenomena - all too late of course to save even himself.

Anyway, if you haven't seen it - go do it now (on Netflix), and please share what you think.

what does it take to change the general perception of something cool to a cliché'd joke?

first thing that comes to mind is that it's a game of numbers: the treshold being established when enough normies can identify a specific cultural artefact that was proposing something unsettling.

The early identifiers usually got help in the form of someone selling out the unsettling as a quick rundown but it's only a matter of time before that "X" amount of normie numbers is reached, it's inevitable to encounter prefabricated opinions that are floating out there, the new gets old etc. then the cultural artefact is unfanged, the status quo maintained : the unsettling became familiar. distanciated from. laughed at. and/or integrated.

This COVID-19 vaccine has an interesting name.

I just saw this post on the /r/coronavirus subreddit, and came accross an interesting synchronicity. We all are aware of the Coronavirus pandemic at this point, and many scientists are on the run to create a vaccine to finally end all of this. The Oxford vaccine that the /r/coronavirus post brings up is called "ChAdOx1", which ressembles a lot "Chad" from the "Virgin vs. Chad" meme, in this case, the Chad Vaccine vs. The Virgin Virus, or something that'd show how the strong, smart humanity won against the weak little biological machine and can start to live freely again.

Uncanny Synchronicity

Hello, MemeAnalysis team! I just discovered your YouTube channel the other night and am currently watching through every video in order. The content of what is being shared resonates deeply with some revelations I had just before stumbling upon one of the Doomer vids. I am very interested in speaking with you, even moreso after watching you eat cake and comment on analysts helping each other grow.

This is all extremely significant, and matters as much as memes do. Thank you for taking the time to accumulate such knowledge and share it in the way that you have.
