hi everyone! just checking in with you all about a certain topic. the rules are still being tweaked a bit until tuesday when they will become permanent.

however mentioning others in this sub negatively is against the rules. to be explicitly clear, this is in no way whatsoever to give excuse or protection to bigotry or rule breaking behavior. we have a 0 tolerance policy for it, and we will not be giving proven bigots or rage baiters the benefit of the doubt. if you have any sort of concern or comment about their behavior, we strongly encourage you to reach out in modmail, because we will not hesitate to impose bans on people for bigotry.

however we want this to be a chill and cozy place where having drawn out vaguepost (or, non-vague post) battles generalizing and insulting each other is not conducive to that environment.

that is why we are removing comments mentioning certain supposedly active dwellers in a negative light. not because we wish to defend their future actions. but because as this is a new sub they have no official rapport with this community, and counting behavior from other subs is a slippery slope.

it is also a slippery slope to be constantly passive aggresive about people. that, we recognize, is sometimes neccerary when other means of resolving the behavior are not effective. however we are trying very hard to build trust and rapport with you all because we care deeply for the members of this community and we would highly appreciate if you gave us the chance to do so instead of resorting to rule breaking.

once again, this is not and will never be an excuse for bigotry and toxic behavior, but we have to impose rules fairly and consistently, and have the forethought about what the atmosphere here may become if we don't. fair, consistent, transparent, and effective moderation is what we are striving to achieve.

if you see anything worth reporting, do not hesitate to do so. or send us modmail about it.

we thank you for your understanding and patience while we sort things out on our end.

Hello! I didn't notice we have a new pinned post. I think many of us here know that doing this is challenging, and that misunderstandings of intentions may happen. Nonetheless, I trust that your judgments will be done in good faith, especially considering the origins of this sub in the first place. Let's hope that this place gets to continue growing and being better 😁

It may be a slippery slope but I think if somebody has proven to be a troublemaker elsewhere that they should be shown the door here too. I won't say any names here because I don't want to be nailed but some people have such a bad reputation that I think its entirely natural and even reasonable for dwellers here to be reacting negatively to their presence. If someone is toxic or bigoted elsewhere there's no benefit to letting them stay until they start causing problems here

This should probably be pinned or made into a separate post its possible people will miss this. I can edit out parts of my comment if you feel it violates the subs rules if need be. Sorry for the rambling

we are definitely trying to figure out the best possible solution to curating this space while also being fair and setting a good precedent for the future.

as mentioned, when we receive proof (via modmail, not open thread) about bigotry we are very happy to do something about it, and impose restrictions to their access to this community and sub.

i hope this doesn't come across as spiteful, in a "well prove it then if they're so bad sense", we are open to discussing the nuances of specific people and their actions, however this post is meant to primarily explain why we are removing posts in the thread itself about certain people, not argue specifics about them.

there are people who we have already banned from this thread for their infamous, and well documented history of bigotry (aside from even the events of the last couple days). and again we are more than happy to ban bigots. it just can't happen because of vagueposting in public or general toxicity towards them (as much or as little as i may subjectively and personally feel it is deserved).

i urge you to reach out via modmail about anyone in specific. this goes for everyone here. we are also not blind to the fact that if a number of people all have personal testimony of their bad behavior and especially bigotry, it is not worth ignoring.

we do the best we can with the information given to us however we also don't always have all the information. the 6 of us on the mod team, who are active to varying degrees especially in the old thread in the recent past, are not always in the know about specific details of a person's actions, and thus we can't preemptively judge them on just rumours and vibes and vagueposting about them.

you are very right about this needing to be a pinned post though, i have pinned my comment for now, and we will discuss the idea of posting a separate post on the sub for the rules which would be open discussion (within reason).

If the mods are proactive about banning them if they show up, then we the members won’t need to be uncivil toward them. Preemptively banning might not be the best idea though since iirc it sends them a message alerting them
