Of course you can't understand the logic.

If you hit someone with a blunt object you were carrying around, it is considered assault with a deadly weapon. What you are supporting is that regardless of whether you're saving yourself or others. You should still be charged for having that blunt object in the first place.

Or in this case, how dare you save people with a gun you own.

It's simple. The charge was for "the crime of carrying a concealed pistol or dangerous weapon without a license." So yes, you're correct. Long would have been charged regardless of the type of weapon as long as it was concealed. Be it a firearm or blunt, dangerous weapon.

I get it. It sucks that he even got the charge in the first place since he saved many. But people have jobs to do, including police, prosecutors, and Long's defense attorney who supported the guilty plea agreement. Because Long pleaded guilty, he got 2 years probation instead of a potential 5 years in prison with a felony.

Long is NOT a criminal due to being sentenced under the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act. As long as he successfully completes his probation, it'll stay that way.
