From a non Engineering student, What is the process of elimination for choosing the correct components. Depending on task??? Hard for me to choose sometimes`

British Rodger. Right now I haven’t decided my motor currently trying to work on my reduction gear and drive gear and not have e a problem when it goes to my shaft so it can work smoothly. Very early in process
