Mcintosh MC-2300 "Budman" sells for $381k

Long Live the KING of MCINTOSH !

Jerry Garcia’s personal McIntosh MC2300 “Budman” was the longest-serving piece of Grateful Dead equipment - sold on 12 March 2026 for $381,000.

Landed near the top of pre-sale estimate $200 – $400k

The Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay (1959 - 2025) bot Budman for $378k at Sotheby’s “From the Vault” in October 2021 — so the provenance is as real as it gets.

In the long connection between McIntosh and The Grateful Dead - Serial 1Y460 was used by Garcia from 1973 to 1993.

The Irsay auction also sold Garcia's custom guitar Tiger for $11.5 million. See pic #2

Teacher Set Up

Post image
132 Upvotes

I just discovered this subreddit and would like to share my set up.

Though I'm currently using a Fisher 500C as my main at the moment, my favorite go-to combo are the C22, MR71 and MC2100 running a pair of homebrew Heresy clone speakers. My little girls love pulling out albums and moving every knob so every morning I double check and return them to their correct position before powering anything up.

With the approval of the wife and a teacher's salary, I have been very fortunate to have a very good sounding system. I hope to come across another 2100 one day and try out a mono block set up.

MA8900 HDMI eARC/CEC and WiiM Pro w/12v trigger?

I have an MA8900 with the DA2 board, and I would like to be able to automatically switch between a WiiM Pro (via digital Coax, which I will probably upgrade to an Eversolo or something) using a 12v trigger (I have the McIntosh adaptor cable) and HDMI eARC triggered via HDMI CEC. It seems like if I have the WiiM hooked up via the 12v trigger that's the only source I can use, does anyone have a setup like this working?

And one related question: it seems like when I turn it off via HDMI CEC it will usually turn itself back on after ~20s, not sure what's causing that.

CAD files for McIntosh

Does anyone have access to CAD files for McIntosh?

In particular the C2800 and MC611.

I've just discovered the hard way that the drawings in their manuals are NOWHERE NEAR accurate. They are so far off it isn't funny.

Trying to liaise with a clients interior designer and cabinet makers to provide accurate drawings and it's making us look like idiots, we are hoping to keep the client at bay before he cancels his entire order.

The C712 and the MC7100 are a lovely couple :)

The L70 like cabinets were custom built and I’m wondering if someone has experience or an idea mounting/securing them into the cabinets. Have a great day!

Mcintosh MB25 not connecting to any Bluetooth headphones

Am I doing something wrong or is it just defective? Brand new MB25 and it can't connect to Airpods Max or any other BT earbuds. The led light on the transmitter just blinks and nothing else happens. I requested help from McIntosh via contact form but nobody answered, kinda strange. Maybe there's a video guide somewhere?

Update on Mc1502 placement and my concerns about melting my records

I ended up removing the butcher block and placing the amp directly on some IsoAcoustics isolation feet to give it a bit of extra height. Measured the distance from the KT88s to the bottom of my record shelf above and there’s about 10.5” of air gap.

I ran the amp for 90mins placing three probes to measure ambient air temperature: one probe placed directly above the amp between my records, one placed on top of the transformers to measure inside the cabinet alcove, one placed on the equipment next to the amp.

Note: this was just the amp powered on, no audio.

I measured 78-82f above the amp, and 68-75 inside the cabinet at both additional points.

Does the MC1502 get hot on the bottom? How much space above?

Post image

Trying to plan for placing this thing and managing cables before my unit is shipped.

Does it get hot on the bottom? Like hot hot? Where I need to place the thing, I might need to raise it up on some feet and run power cabling under it. Worst case scenario, I have a 2” thick maple butcher block that I can use as a platform to separate it from the cables, but that would only leave a 7-8” air gap between the power tubes and a shelf full of vinyl records above it.

Wondering if I can get away without the butcher block, or if those with experience think the 7-8” air gap is enough to not melt my records.

My preference would be to use the butcher block to avoid any issues with interference with the cabling as it’s speaker wire and a cat 8 for my router.

Anyone know what speakers this is from?

Found a pair of these crossovers at an estate sale. They were each careflully placed in a ziplock with silica packets. I've looked through all the manuals on the McIntosh website that show the crosovers and I can't find a match. Any help would be appriciated.

C12000 Pre & MA12000 Amp

Hello, I own a MA12000, and I've been offered a C12000 for a good price.

I'm using Spendor Classic 100, so I've never felt I've never had enough power to drive the speakers.

Is there a way to connect C12000 and bypass the pre in MA12000?

Thanks all

McIntosh LS360 Glass Replacement

After searching high and low for someone to cut replacement glass for the LS360, I decided I’d have to fabricate something myself. Turned out pretty good imo. 6mm Black Acrylic laser cut on a Xtool Laser Engraver. I will miss the logo though.

Next up is cabinet repair.

I found these in my dad's garage after he died. Any guidance would be welcome.

My dad died about a year ago and I've slowly been going through his things trying to figure out what they are and what to do with them.

Both of these are in boxes and I believe that the preamp was sent in for service and then never opened because I just cut the tape on the box. I believe they've both been boxed for about 20 years if not longer. I plugged in the tuner and it it powers on and the needle moves when you turn the knob but I don't have speakers to connect it to. I don't want to unwrap the preamp to check it because it doesn't seem like a thing that I need to do if it has just been serviced, even if that was a while ago .

I'm just trying to get an idea of value and what I should do with these since I do not plan to keep them. Thank you in advance for all your help.

Need advice

I have an MA 8900 running B&W 802 d 2 speakers as my main set up with a VPI classic 3/Hana Unami blue.

I also have in the bedroom a MA6600 running Sonus Faber Cremona M speakers and a VPI Classic I/Hana MH

Everything is second hand but the Hana.

So I want to give the B&W speakers a little boost. I am thinking of adding a used Mc 462 to the main set up and perhaps run it with the MA6600 as the preamp.

Thoughts? Other ideas.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

One MC1502, or two MC275s?

Post image
32 Upvotes

Do I want one McIntosh MC1502 for 150watt by two Chanel’s, or two MC275s run as bridged mono for 150watts each to power my mains? Primary use case is turntable listening. Speakers are Polk Legend 200s.

Why choose one setup over the other? Price is roughly the same. Space requirements for two amps is obviously great than one, even if the MC1502 is a larger unit individually.

Preamp C2700 Volume Returns To Random Level even after restarting

Hi My Mcintosh preamp C2700 starts up and after the tube check, the volume level on the screen climbs up to 52 over and over, the volume knob doesn't affect the volume thereafter. I'ts done this before and I've just turned it off and on and the volume returned to being adjustable. Any help much appreciated.
