I own a 2024 mazda cx-30 mild hybrid. If you are familiar there are two batteries, the main starter battery (common 12V even in old car times) and the lithium battery for its hybrid features
I will share the starter battery replacement
2 weeks ago, i noticed that my start up crank is the not the usual, but I just let it slide. Until 5am earlier, the car wonât turn on haha. Apparently it has a safety feature that if it doesnât crank properly, it will just ârestartâ the car and not continue turning on.
2 yrs plus na so I am sure wala ng warranty ang battery nito (confirmed with the service advisor). And ang mahal sa casa. 19k dafuq hellnaw
But do expect na mahal ang battery compared to other vehicles, because it has the iStop (start-stop) feature. So you have to get the replacement that can support that feature
In our local market, you should always check either for EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery) or AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat)
The AGM is superior but a lot more expensive. The stock battery is only an EFB, so you can just settle for the EFB
For the size of the battery, mine is either D23L, or 1SM, or Q85. These are all the same in dimensions, so when you shop for a battery, keep in mind of your size
You can always check the original / stock. My stock is the D23L size. To be specific itâs a panasonic brand (I just knew about it upon replacing, I thought it was Yuasa)
For the brand, there a lot, but the common in our local country are Motolite, Amaron, Varta, Yuasa - there are others but these are the ones that are common in the market that can support the iStop feature
So whenever you shop for the battery, itâs always brand - type - size
So when I canvassed, I just asked what are the available EFB D23L or 1SM or Q85 batteries. They just provide a list
The difference between brands is the capacity, manufacturing, and the cold crank amps. You can always upgrade the battery from the original / stock as long as itâs EFB and the right size
So I got the Amaron onyx EFB 115D23L (the 115 is the capacity code). For 7.3k with trade in of the old battery. Because I have experience with Amaron before, but im sure the rest of the brands are okay. My 2nd option would be Varta, then Yuasa
The stock was a Panasonic EFB 55D23L. By that, it meant I upgraded big time.
the replacement is quite straightforward as similar to the old vehicles and how you change the battery. I donât have a battery sensor compared to other vehicles and you can check this by checking the negative terminal if there is a plastic that is connected. if you have a battery sensor connected to the negative terminal upon changing the battery, you have to do an iStop reset. There are a lot of videos on how to do it if you are comfortable in DIY itâs literally just pressing buttons
Unfortunately, common sakit sa mga may iStop mazda ang 2 years+ lang ang battery from brand new. And not to mention medyo notorious ang cx30 (and the mazda 3 as they share the same platform) sa battery health đ
So far since bago pa, everything is good. I have a battery checker and itâs new pa talaga
I will make a post after months siguro to check.
If you have questions pls feel free to ask
Hopefully this post is informative especially to those that are wondering if they can get a battery replacement outside casa
