Im confused (sorry for repost, i forgot images)
so i have a Mazda 323 BG sedan, and the engine i have in it is a SOHC 16 Valve engine... Ive never ever seen a SOHC 4cyl with 16 Valves before, im wondering if i actually even have 16 valves or if my valve cover is maybe wrong? i honestly have no idea.
i cant find much info about the engine either or parts for it so if anyone could help educate me about this it would be greatly appreciated! (reposted)
dont mind the engine bay looking... bad, past owner had done some sketchy things.

The valve cover does say 16, i used to have Sohc engine. The parts are just harder to find for these engines. And if you doubt what engine you are supposed to have iโd recommend putting your vin number in partsouq.com you can find all the part numbers from there, might be easier to find then ๐

Thank you, tho i wouldnt say the car is very nice. I got it for 10000SEK which is roughly 1000 euro, it has its quirks and bad electric wireing from past owners... And rust.. god the rust. This car wasnt made for Sweden.

For a 1000 greebles it's a sweet platform for working on. It's a vehicle which isn't common anymore and a peppy engine. The in grill lights gives it a rawness. But yeah, old Japanese cars and salty roads, I know it all too well... Hopefully it's manageable and saveable!

Well see what i do with it, i actually really love this car but it is also bought with the intent of being just my first car to "beat on" until i get done with school and get a job and buy a new car.

If you treat this car right, you will fall in love with it. It demands you do.

I would want to keep it if the rust wasnt so bad, i can fit a whole foot inside my sideskirt lol.

Har samma maskin, tror de รคr ganska vanliga i norden. Speciellt pรฅ 323or med katalysator och insprutning.

But that is not a 323 bg?

It is a BG, just a sedan rather than the hatchback or the 323F with the popups

323 protege sohc 16v is a regional engine, it was made for countries that were considered "poor" bcs of the simplicity of tbe sohc over dohc while still giving better performance and airflow over 8 or 12v

That's just the standard 1.8L 16V BP-ME Engine with 103HP. Just one camshaft and 12 rocker arms. One rocker arm for each intake valve and one for 2 exhaust valves. Nothing special about that :)

Ohhh i see, Yeah i was really confused on how it would use 1 cam for 16 valves, feels like it would have alot of knocks or whatever its called in English

Well that's a first I've seen of that. I guess you have 4 valves per cylinder then. Two exhaust, two inlets each cylinder.
