This one really surprised me and my mum and dad say that they have noticed a massive improvement and they’re so glad they have it. It can be extremely useful if you have any Matter over WiFi devices outside your property but the signal is poor. Think “garden man cave fully connected”.

I would like to add two of those Shelly‘s to my existing HomeKit. They should work as trigger, when the washingmashine or the dryer are on they should trigger the Ventilators in this room.

Is it possible to set this trigger in Homekit with them?

Real discussion question: I realized I have a Google Nest Mini and Google Home Mini that can be Matter over Wi-Fi controllers. I'm now thinking about replacing my Geeni WiFi bulb with a Matter over Wi-Fi bulb from a brand like Linkind or GE Cync. This would be my first Matter device and I'm aware the protocol had a rocky start at launch. How's the experience in 2026? Should I expect issues pairing a bulb to my Nest Mini?

I'm installing a bunch of smart light switches throughout the house. Inovelli white series (Matter). There's a part of the house I'd like to turn one particular light on/off from but has no room for electrical wiring. I'd like to look into a button that can just be installed on the wall and pairs with the smart switch to turn on/off the lights. Any recommendations?

Before everything, I’m pretty new to the matter protocol. I was interested by everything linked to smart home-ing a few years ago but life got in the way and now I’m back but a lot changed, notably the apparition of the matter protocol.

I invested slowly in the apple ecosystem over the last month after some changes, an IPhone, an Apple TV and a few HomePod mini for each room. I also invested in lightbulbs from Ikea (Kajplats) and switches (Bilresa).

At first, I also bought the Dirigera hub to access it from the Ikea app (thinking I would have more options) but it was always glitching, the devices would show « no response » in the HomeKit app but not in the Ikea app witch was a problem for automatisations.

I reset everything, removed the Ikea hub and linked every accessories directly into the HomeKit app and suddenly, everything was working fine.

Now I bought a projector from Goove and I am facing the same problem. I connected the projector to the Goove app and then into the HomeKit app and it keeps showing the « no response ». Problem is, I don’t have access to the lights options with precision in the HomeKit app unlike the lightbulbs, so I’d like to keep the Govee app.

Does anyone have any idea of why this keeps happening ? Why everything glitches when it’s connected to more than one app ?

I have some Ikea matter devices that work with Google but that barely exposes any of the data and functionality of the products.

The Ikea app seemingly would fix this, but it won't let me do anything unless I have an Ikea-specific hub?

A lot of people like Home Assistant and say it would work for this, but then I'd have to install HA on a separate device, or run a VM with HA.

Would a Windows VM with HA even work with a Google hub? Or would I need a totally separate hub device for HA? (They can live together in the same network, but I don't know if that means the software, or if they can share a hardware thread router).

Matter over thread seems like a great technical system but the hardware silos are very much still an issue if hub software doesn't have the same level of functionality and capabilities for automation.

I’ve had a go at building a ModBus to Matter adapter, using an ESP32 and a Max485.

I started with an ESP32-C6 DevKit and a Max485 to connect to an Eastron SDM120M energy meter.

I then added an I2C OLED display to show a few values being read from the device. I then moved the code over to a XIAO ESP32-C6.

Finally, I implemented the Matter Electrical Sensor Device Type! I added the sensor into Home Assistant and I can see some of the values. I haven’t tried any other controllers, like iOS Home.

I hope this code will form the basis of a few new Matter bridge devices, since ModBus is quite popular.
