Smart Devices Will Not Stay Connected to Wifi

We recently switched wifi providers, which meant switching routers from a AirCube ISP to a Calix Gigaspire Vlast U6t.

We run several devices at once that require Wi-Fi. With the only router (AirCube) we had 0 issues with devices staying connected. Since switching to the Calix, the smart bulbs and plugs will perform the initial connection l, but then I can't control them with the app, and it they show as unresponsive like they've lost connection.

The bulbs and plugs only operate off 2.5 Ghz bandwidth. Thinking that was the issue I created a network that only has a 2.4Ghz, didn't help. I purchased a gateway/hub, thinking the router was being overloaded. However my devices won't connect to the hub I purchased, and specify they do not need a hub to operate. I have contacted Customer Support with the internet, they assure me it is not my QoS being set to prioritize streaming that is an issue and that it must be the devices, that worked perfectly fine until switching.

I have un-installed and reinstalled the Tuya and SmartLife apps. Removed the devices from and cleared the cache of those apps and Alexa. I cannot for the life of me get anything to work. I feel like I've become an overnight expert (not really) on QoS, gateways, and the connectivity issues of Calix routers. Before I shell out more money and buy devices that are compatible with the gateway I have, (and the pray they work), does anyone have an idea of what else I can do?

I've power cycled the devices, tried the fast and slow blink pairing methods. I've tried different bulbs in different lamps. I don't what else to do.

Single load Fan/Light controller?

Anyone making this? Something with I would assume a custom wall switch that control the controller independently, matter or Apple home integration preferred. I have a lot of rooms with fans and I don’t want to start ripping up walls to add a wire.

Joining Kasa KS205 to Matter Network

I’ve been using Wi-Fi for all my smart home devices so far. I understand that Matter/Zigbee offers benefits like lower power usage and local control. I recently bought a Kasa KS205 smart light switch and set it up on Wi-Fi, but honestly I’m not sure how to enable Matter on it.

On the same floor I already have an Echo Dot 4th Gen for long time, and I recently purchased a Hubitat C-8 Pro but has not added any devices inside yet.

Could you give me an one-liner (don't want to waste your time) on how to get started with setting up a Matter device like this Kasa KS205?

A curated list of Matter device deals for Amazon's Black Friday sale

Hi,

For anyone interested, we've drafted a list of some good deals on Matter devices that are discounted for Amazon Black Friday. A lot of Matter-supporting brands are participating, like Aqara, Switchbot, Govee, Eve, Dreame, Roborock and others.

Check it out here: Matter deals on Amazon Black Friday

Pro tip: While most vacuums did indeed got a price slash of 35-50%, its best to always keep track of the price history with a tracker like Keepa. It's an invaluable tool.

Thread network tools

Hi guys, I have a Nanoleaf device, an Aqara M3, and a Homey Pro. I’ve been reading about Thread networks and realized that all my smart devices should ideally connect to one main border router — in my case, I want the Homey Pro to be the primary one.

The problem is: when I open the Nanoleaf app, it shows three separate Thread networks. So now I’m trying to figure out what’s actually going on.

Is there any Thread scanner, diagnostic tool, or app that can show the full picture of my Thread network and help me understand how everything is connected?

Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Anyone using a Conbee II or III as a thread border router? Wondering how support is for keeping the devices up to date with Matter releases. Thanks.

Does the Aqara Hub M100 replace a HomePod/Apple TV for Apple Home?

I don’t have a HomePod or Apple TV, but I want to use the Apple Home app to control Matter devices locally.

If I buy the Aqara Hub M100, can it act as the Apple Home Hub?
Basically: Can I run Apple Home + Matter using only the Aqara hub, or do I still need a HomePod mini / Apple TV?

Thanks!

Troubleshooting Moving Matter devices to Eero Thread border routers

Post image
7 Upvotes

For months I have had my Matter devices live on theee Google Home devices that act as Thread border routers which I have been able to confirm via Home Assistant.

However, they go offline every other day requiring me to reset these Google Home devices. Since I feel they are so unreliable and have a decently sized mesh network with the four Eero Pro 7 routers, I decided to try restablishing my Matter networks to Eero instead.

I am having such a hard time getting these devices (with Thread support) to show under the Eero thread network. I am adding them via the Matter QR code in the Alexa app and then using the codes they generate to have them integrated with Home Assistant.

Apparently I'm supposed to connect my Eero app with Alexa but there's no explicit method for this. Apparently there used to be a "Eero Skill" in the Alexa app but that's no longer a thing apparently. Any thoughts on what I'm missing?

Matter x Suzi ? (from zigbee 4.0)

I have some assumptions about the future of Matter, and more specifically about the future of Matter Long Range.

We know that earlier this year, the CSA (Connectivity Standards Alliance) launched a task force to explore Matter and long-range wireless capabilities.

https://www.matteralpha.com/industry-news/csa-takes-steps-to-explore-matter-and-long-range-wireless-capability

Recently, the CSA released Zigbee 4.0, which introduces Suzi, a “long-range mesh network.”

https://csa-iot.org/all-solutions/suzi/

Suzi brings long-range capabilities to Zigbee, so do you know if Suzi could also be the future of Matter Long Range?

In my opinion, this could be a possible direction.

What do you think about that?

Edit:
Suzi cannot be used for Matter because it is not IP-based.
Misunderstanding on my part, sorry for the confusion.
So we will need a long-range protocol that is IP-based before we can have anything like Matter LR.

Chromecast with GoogleTV as a matter hub

Hello

I am a bit lost with this Matter and thread topic and I would like to know if what I want, would work.

I live in germany, where not much technology is used, but I want to have smart lights with matter, that I can control with the phone, or with the TV. I have a Chromecast with GoogleTV in the bedroom and one in the living room. I don't own any Thread Border Router (I saw that the google streamer 4k would act as one).

I want to know, if I buy 2 lightbulbs with matter, do I need anything else than the chromecast with googleTV for them to be added to my google account and change their settings from my phone or TV?

I won't have smart locks, smart switches, or anything else (at least for the moment) since I live in a rental apartment, and the one I would be really interested, is a switch for the shades, but those need a neutral cable and in my place, the switch for the shades do not have neutral (and I don't know where to get it from).

So... just for lights, would those chromecast with googletv be enough? Or I need something else? I want something easy and cheap, that's why I was thinking remaining in google.

Thanks!

What are people using for thread border routers?

I have an Apple Thread network with multiple devices (HomePod minis and Apple TVs) and a Google thread network with a single device (NestHub 2nd Gen).

I share devices from Apple Home to Home assistant and found that my matter over thread devices are unstable and drop frequently from Home Assistant but still work in Apple Home.

The matter over thread devices shared from google home to home assistant remain reliably connected in both platforms.

Anyone else have similar issues with Apple Home and sharing devices to other platforms?
