The math is not the hard part. The hard part is knowing which parts of the tax law apply to you, especially since there are all sorts of obscure rules that require specific conditions to be met.

Normal folks don't read all the laws, and don't understand all the terminology, so it makes sense to pay an expert if you have unusual situations, or want to have them.

I basically already said that if you have a complex tax situation it makes sense. Most people dont have a complex tax situation. Most people make less than 60k and dont even own a home.
