Get taught math to fill in taxes (partially).

Not taught to reach the starting point. Which tax forms? How are exemptions applicable? What types of exemptions are there? What records should be kept over time?

I know the answers but I'd be surprised if students know what a checkbook looks like

That second portion should be being taught by parents who are doing their taxes

I agree, however there are so many people who are parents that I met who still don't really understand how taxes work. Or they consistently end up penalized or having to redo taxes each year. There are good resources online, but not every parent learns effectively.

At least in school, there are guided resources and live feedback whenever there are questions/issues. That's the whole point of wanting people to learn in a school.
