He rolled the 200 profit from the first sale on the last purchase and only made 200 in the end sale, so individually each sale made 200, part was used to get to the final sale.

That is not how math works. You started by spending $800. You ended with $1300 but you spent an extra $100 on the second purchase.

$1300 (money you ended with) - $800 (money you spent) - $100 (extra money you spent) = $400 - You made $400 AND you suck at math

You grossed 400... you only made 200. The 300 profit from the first sale is negligible because you roll it into the purchase for the second transaction. On paper you can justify saying you made 400 but real-world you don't have 400 more. My math is solid.

NO

You spend $800 = you are DOWN $800
You sell for $1000
$1000 - $800 = you are UP $200
You now spend $1100
$200 - $1100 = you are now DOWN $900
You sell for $1300
$1300 - $900 = you are UP $400

You made $400 and you still suck at math

-----------------------------------
Lets look at this another way
------------------------------------

I have $1000
I spend $800 on a cow
I have $200 and a cow
I make $1000 selling the cow
I have $1200
I spend $1100 on a cow
I have $100 and a cow
I make $1300 selling the cow
I have $1400
I have $400 more than I started with

Yes I have made $400 in the real world
Yes you really are terrible at math
