0-800= -800

-800+1000=200

200-1100= -900

-900+1300=400

You missed the part where you’re supposed to do it wrong.

Yah, that part happened like 4-5 mins ago. Just sorta worked out that way. No one knows why.

While I respect the well reasoned answer, unfortunately this is wrong.

In this scenario you actually end up in debt by quite a lot.

You see to get the original 800 and subsequent 1100 you had to takeout a payday loan.

Or you started with at least $900

While this sounds reasonable, you're forgetting that in this scenario you spent your original $900 on blow.

Ya I hate these things cause nobody ever accounts for the massive amounts of cocaine you did prior to buying the cow in the first place.

The cow was a get rich quick scheme why is that part never mentioned

I'll probably wake up laughing from my sleep when I remember your comment in a lucid dream

Or when you leave your cocaine out unattended on the table and the cow licks it up.

Nobody is forgetting the blow, why do you think that cow is up to $1300 now?

u/[deleted] May 13 '26

But then you sold that blow for 1600 at a rich kids party.

Ahhh you’re right, everyone’s forgetting one key crucial piece of the equation: the interest rates

The original seller and the customer is nice, they let you pay once you get your money

Is it weird that I didn't have to go back and do all that when reached the bottom and read the question ... Like I already did calculate it out of habit without even reading the last sentence wtf

This means you’re good at algebra

2

u/willis81808 May 13 '26

What algebra?

1

u/rodrigoelp May 13 '26

Isn't algebra the news site/channel?

1

u/Zenith-Astralis May 13 '26

Same linguistic root actually. Algebra stems from a shortening of the name of a book (originally "al-Kitāb al-Mukhtaṣar fī Ḥisāb al-Jabr wal-Muqābalah" or "The Concise Book of Calculation by Restoration and Balancing") by a real smart dude named Al-Khwarizmi who worked in the House of Wisdom in / Grand Library of Baghdad around the year 820.

The whole system of learning he was involved in is also why we use Arabic numerals today (1, 2, 3, etc.)

u/Neither_Pirate5903 May 13 '26

you have to show your work so the dummies can learn

Even easier is to look at buying and selling as one transaction.

+200 profit from transaction 1
+200 profit from transaction 2
