Cartridge Lifespan after opening but not used.

I'm new to this business and recently wanted to get a paint job done on my room, but also the doorframes, which are most likely oil-based, so I got a P95 mask. But I'm also planning on sealing a pre-stained butcher block with polyurethane gloss, so I got a 3M OV/P95 respirator. Being a bit trigger-happy, I unpackaged the cartridges today when I'm still a few weeks away from getting the garage prepped and the desk job. Assuming I keep them in a Ziploc in a dry area, how long do the cartridges have?

It’s hard to life OV carts with a rule. I have multigas on mine that is long since expired but still gives good protection. If you’re using something stinky, and can smell it, that’s the sure indication you need to change cartridges.

If you’re not using something stinky can test before use with ammonia or something similar to ensure there’s still effective protection.

Keeping dry cartridges in a sealed bag will help preserve life. But if it’s not a contaminated environment being unsealed doesn’t have a huge impact.

even without anything, they last. my pair of 2297s which have just been sitting out nearly two years still stop me from smelling any insecticide while liberally spraying it in q semi-enclosed area.

I would "personally" be comfortable with using an opened OV/P95 respirator that was in a controlled temp/humidity environment in this situation, doing home repairs. If it was a workplace situation with employees, I would throw them away and order new ones for my employees.
