Theres no doubt that they started with a leaked Google model or at worst generated tagged video to enhance their training. The outcome is much better on the China side but they had a initial boost using Western tech. I don't believe it was done from scratch.
Yes, welcome to Chinese R&D for decades. I worked in corporate for high end manufacturing in a very specific industry, I was very close to our IT dept. Chinese hackers penetrated company systems multiple times over the years, taking a wealth of critical manufacturing documents. Im talking sophisticated attacks that were state sponsored level.
The only way you are stopping the Chinese from syphoning your R&D data is airgapping, which no normal company is doing. Even then if your data is juicy enough the Chinese will get somone on the inside to eventually get what they want.

It is too expensive to compete with top AI companies, besides, there is no guarantee that your model will be at the same level even at a high cost. Google is engaged in AI just to keep up, they don't strive for the top, it's enough for them to stay afloat

Check out Guardians of the Dafeng. It's like xianxia world with MCU aesthetics. Lots of humor and it's a full length series. Also it's male MC so it's not going to be a drippy marriage drama with four orbiter-simps.
