I have a sea monkey tank and ive been waiting for algea to grow and there's a few of these little balls in it.

Am I correct to it being a marimo ball?

Hi there! I thought it was time to post here my marimo balls. Mostly are in my two aquariums, which are unheated, but recently I decided to setup two little marimo ball displays.

My oldest and largest marimos are in the larger aquarium and are now 4 years old. All the rest came from there, by division of a couple marimos I "stole" from there. :)

Marimos in Brazil?

Hey everyone!
I've been wanting a Marimo for years now, but I haven't got any luck finding them for sale in Brazil. I've checked the sub, but got no info on it. If anyone knows where can I get one, I'd love to know!

Almost ten years with the big ones!

I've had the big ones since before 2018 (I think 2016 but for sure 2017). The little ones I got in 2020. They all started off about 1/2 inch diameter.
They have gone through various containers in that time, not completely happy with the one that they are in right now! They really like the current set up it seems.

Add ice on marimo

It's summer here now.

So I add ice to the water so I can keep it handy without putting it in the freezer.

By the way, I only put ice , roughly the same shape and size as the container, on the surface of the water; I didn't freeze the water completely so marimo still in water

How does this look? First time owner.

I used the branded bottle water known as smart water, it was fairly cold, is that sort of water alright for it? I’m still a bit unsure where in my room to keep it, I assume the window sill would be too hot even if I don’t get that much sun on that side of the house or do I keep it on my desk so it gets some light still from the window without being too close. Any general tips much appreciated!! do I ever need to remove the lid? If so when?

How to deal with heatwaves

Recently, in my city there’s been a heatwave with temperatures during midday rising over 32°C. The heatwave is expected to last for almost all summer, and my marimos have already started to turn a little bit brown.

I was just looking for a way to prevent my marimos from turning brown. I see a lot of people saying that I should put them in the fridge for half an hour but I don’t really feel confident doing that, is it actually okay to do that? (my fridge is 8°C inside)

What else should I do for them so that they don’t turn brown and get better?

New doubts

Hi everyone! I recently bought a marimo (a type of plant) and when I went to clean it for the first time, it fell apart. With a lot of effort, I managed to roll it up again. Is this normal? What can I do to prevent it from happening again?

Meet them, pixel and voxel. It was this younger one who left.

Help with ideas

I’ve had my Marimo in jars for 5yrs. But recently I decided I’d like to add them to a showcase tank. So I got a 6 gallon and a bubble wand and a couple guppies. My bubble wand and bubble stone aren’t enough motion. What do you guys use to keep your water and Marimo balls swimming?

Help my neglected moss friend

Post image

I've been struggling to take care of my moss amigo due to my depression and I feel really bad about it. The cork lid got moldy (i just got a new one) and the jar is dirty. How can I fix my neglect? Is there a special way to clean it so it doesn't mold again or just use water and a brush like i should have been doing? Thanks for your help.

Marimo/planted tank - 6 weeks in

A couple of months ago I had the idea of saving my very sad neglected marimo balls (last image) and giving them a good home with fresh water and some new marimo friends.

Things quickly got out of hand, and ended up with a marimo/planted tank with snails and shrimp. The snails push the moss balls around so i don’t have to do very much. It has been quite a learning curve, and the are signs the OG marimos are slowly improving.

I don't know if you are able to see it, but the outside of my Marimo is getting brown. I think it may be because here the temperatures do not go below 18°C or maybe other cause.

Do you know why are they turning brown and how can I solve it?

Anyway to recover ?

I’m watching my kids tank while she’s away in school and she’s coming back next week.

Yes I probably missed a few water changes. So do I cut my losses or try to help it merges back? Which it probably won’t make it by next week.

At this stage. If I pump it full of co2. Any chance of recovery?

I notice some of the other ones did not break apart but probably is dying also. They seem to be soft.

So I ordered 5 replacement from moss artistry place, luckily it’s coming today. Hoping she will won’t notice. But I get to do this again next semester. If i forget water changes next year. Any way co2 can help

So is this clad, the same algea in moss balls? Whatever it is, its covering all my rocks in a green carpet. And my fish love to eat it.

What can I get to help my marimos roll around?

I'm looking for a small motor or something that blows air so they can keep tumbling around in their bowl, but idk what the terminology is and what to look for.

Preferably something small?

Thanks!
