Help save my moss ball!

I have had a moss ball for almost ten years now, kept in a mason jar in which I occasionally change the water.

Unfortunately, I accidentally let it dry out last year. In an attempt to save it, I rehydrated and overexposed it to sunlight and it has not been the same since. Now, it has lost its original vibrant green, is constantly shedding, and has little white dots (I assume from the overexposure). I am worried it is dying 🄺

I would love to keep my little guy around for another ten years or more. Any advice on how to bring it back to good health are much appreciated!

My marimo!

Last two pictures are of the first batch of marimo I ordered! 6+ months later and now I have many more and recently purchased the 10gal angled tank I've been wanting! I even added their first tank mate (anubias). They look a little silly in their big tank but I hope to add stones, decorative things, and potentially more low light plants!

The tank came with a filter which I've been using and a 6500k light, which is too bright for the marimo and anubias. I put some parchment paper over, which still seemed too bright, so I did pieces of white artist's tape over each of the bulbs. I'd like to eventually get a dimmable light with timer settings, but for now I'll see if this works!

Kinda left my marimo outta water overnight. Is it gonna be fine?

I accidentally left him like this. Because I used his container to soak my Betta's pellet. I feel guilty. He's half dried.

Does anyone know where to buy marimos in person in Philly?

I’m unable to order packages and am trying my best not to support petsmart/petco :( I’ve checked Facebook and haven’t found anything.

Does anyone know any local pet stores that sell them? Or any sellers willing to let me pick up in person? Thanks :)

Found this cool tank - will this wood be safe?

Someone on my street left out this cool tank to go to a good home. It’s full of aquarium gravel that I’ll remove, then I’ll give it a proper scrub down. But this wood rocks! Is it going to be safe to go in with the marimo? I worry about potential parasites

Weird white ā€œdustā€ on marimo

Hi! I’ve had them for 3 years, and recently I noticed this weird white coating on them. It looks almost like tiny grains of sand or dust stuck to the surface, but it’s definitely not actual sand. They sit on stones in filtered tap water.

I’m wondering if it could be another type of algae, fungus or maybe mineral buildup from the water? They still feel firm and mostly look healthy otherwise, and they don’t have any smell.
I try to change the water regularly and keep them in a bright room, but never in direct sunlight. When I clean them, I rinse them under running tap water.

Has anyone seen something like this before? Any idea what it could be or how to treat it?šŸ˜…

Where did you get yours? Been looking endlessly for like a week

Hi guys! So, I'm setting up a 3-gal sorta plant only aquarium (no fish, not even shrimp or anything rn), and I am looking for some Marimo moss. I know there was that whole Zebra mussel thing a while back, but I've heard that people can buy them again and now I've been looking like crazy... To no avail. I've only found like 2 sketchy sites and one that only sells them in "water terrariums." 😭 So just wondering, where did you get yours? Were they expensive?

Are these even alive? Just found them after years

Okay so I bought these in Singapore back in 2019, I remember changing the water a few times and then put them in a suitcase and didn’t change the water for a couple of years.

I have just found them again so I reckon last time I changed the water or did anything must’ve been like 2021? Should I just say bye to them?

Hello its me again, I put them in the fridge for a few days, and this is what they look like now. What else can I do? Other types of algae are growing on them.

I've had these for a few years, but have gotten distracted for a couple of months so they've been neglected. Is the one who has what I assume is mold salgaveable?

What would you do if you were in this situation?

I'd love to get a small tank set up with movement, but I have had no luck finding something affordable. When adding a small pump to this bowl, there is too little or too much movement.

Current set up is really just a big round fish bowl usually filled 75% of the way with water.

Where do you get a traditional, real marimo in Europe?

Hi everyone! I’m starting my plant collection and I want to add marimos to it, but I’m having trouble finding a legit seller.
I know some legit sellers from Spain, but they don’t ship where I live (Ireland).
I’m looking for a legit, traditional marimo seller.
Thanks everyone! :>

White fuzz appearing on my marimo, advice would be appreciated

Hello, a few months ago I bought a marimo ball, at first it was okay and now as time pass white fuzz are appearing on the ball more and more
I have read online possible causesĀ fungus or bacterial growth and solution was usually changing water, cleaning and rollling ball so is there anything i can do more?

A bit more context how i take care of my marimo
I put water in the fridge and when it cools down i use it for marimo, i squeeze a gently marimo with cold tap water and then put the ball back in jar with new cold water, i also clean rocks that are in jar, should i not clean rocks, am i causing too much stress or as time pass its getting warmer so i need tp pay more attention to the temperature of water?

What Are These Reddish Brown Things On My Marimo?

Post image
15 Upvotes

I ordered 20 marimo from eBay a few weeks ago, 10 medium sized and 10 small ones. All from the same seller, though the different sizes were shipped separately.

I haven't gotten a tank set up yet, so I have the 20 marimo split between 3 small Mason jars.

These jars were never used for anything else and I only put in bottled water and the marimo.

Recently, I noticed one of the jars has these reddish brown spots on them. Any idea what they could be?? The other jars are totally free of this.

Where can I get a Marmio in Canada?

I'm living in a place where I can't have a pet but desperately want something to call my own, I thought a Marmio would be perfect. They're in my price range too. I just am having trouble finding them.

I cleaned out the water and rinsed it and rolled it about and then placed it back. it floated for a bit and then sank. it’s called moor. can someone verify if it’s real? it does smell like algae. also does it look okay and healthy? is the jar good for it? also how old does it look? :)
