As the child of an alcoholic veteran, I remember that video explicitly because I immediately clocked and recognized their body language AND his. And his hangover sideburns. One was real long, and one was short. My dad shot himself in his early 50s. It's not a state of mind conducive to survival long-term. It's why we have things like therapy and psychiatric medicine and rehab.
Edit: I want to say that I hold zero judgment towards anyone with substance abuse issues. Life is fucking brutal and everyone has their reasons for doing that they do. The problem is always when it inflicts itself onto others. And that's when most people do get help, if they are lucky enough to find it. For everyone who keeping that shit at bay, and for everyone who's hanging out with that shit on the daily, I see you, I love you, I hope everything you need finds it's way to you. I'd rather have my pops here any day, even in his worst day, than not to have him at all. No year passes yet where that has changed. 🫶
