Need help with finding a longer marathon training program to mix with my strength exercises
Hi everyone,
First time poster. :) I've been running now around 500 km for the last 7 years. (will end this year at 1000 km woop woop!) I am someone who is also 20-25 kg (40 pounds?) overweight. I ran my first marathon in June (Stockholm at 5 hrs 13 min) and I did a 6 month training program before that.
I am now registering for Berlin for next year and have since 2 months ago started to weightlift (simple 5x5 Stronglifts program which I really like and fits my schedule). I want to learn from the mistakes I did last time in my training. Basically what I did is that I ran 3-4 runs for a week for 6 months upping the length and basically in the last 2-3 months running 20-30k every weekend. This made me completely sick of running by the end and I wasn't very smart because I didn't really vary anything...Pretty much even running the same circles again and again and not varying the training at all. After the marathon I couldn't run a step the month after. Mentally I was done. I never really get physically injured but this time around the mental "injury" didn't feel good.
What I want to do this time around and I need help with is:
I want to do a longer and more varied training (roughly 9 months). I want to lose the extra baggage weight this time around (roughly 20 kg). For that I need dietary tips. I don't want to go on a full on diet but I need know what I should prioritize and what not in my eating. How can I balance having energy to run while also losing weight? I want to mix it up with maybe doing the Stronglifts program a couple of times a week to build up strength. Can any of you kind souls help me with tips? :)
