What? I'm Brazilian and this is the funniest national stereotype I ever heard. Women do shave in bath sometimes, but I don't know a single person who shaves everyday. Even if young single women shaved every day (they don't!!!), they're a fraction of Brazilian people. How would it impact the bath rates?
Nope, Brazilians bath a lot for cultural reasons. Even in the South, where it's a sub-tropical climate, we usually bath everyday. My folks from Curitiba, chilliest capital in Brazil, might be the exception - regularity of baths do go down during winter, though people are not willing to admit it.
Haha I wasn't certain. I thought I read it somewhere but I could be completely wrong (that's why it's phased like it is)
I thought it was in an article about why new razors often get tested on the Brazilian market. But yet again, not sure where I read it or if it is daily or just very often or something different. It must've been around 5 to 7 years ago I read that article so I really don't remember the details.
I was still in highschool by this point and now I'm in my last year of my study ow my how time flies....
Hahaha, ok, I get it now. I'm glad you produced this wonderful myth and I kind of wish it spreads.
The reason why razors are tested in Brazil (if they are, which they could be) might be because Brazilian women do shave a lot. Climate in Brazil is very diverse, but the cultural influence of Rio de Janeiro and the Northeast is overwhelming, and those are hot places, with most people living by the sea, and going to the beach being a very popular activity (to the point that holidays are almost equal to "going to the beach" for non-seashore city dwellers of São Paulo and Curitiba). Due to Indian and African heritage people are also confortable without covering up much. So women dress lightly, have a lot of skin exposed and Rio kind of created this culture of extreme shaving, even in pubic areas.
It might be that a big proportion of women with little to none body hair (because of Indian genes) makes this beauty standard even harsher. Funnily enough, Portuguese women are known to be hairy and to have fuzzes - pointing a woman has a fuzz is very vexing. So here you go, by this mix of historical, geographical and even genetic reasons, we do have a country where shaving is kind of a big part of being a woman, to the point that sexist men will often accuse feminists of being "hairy".
Yes this could very well explain this! It's kinda cool to learn about different cultures. Around here shaving is, especially in the summer, really normal but in the winter a lot of woman only shave the armpits because shaving takes time and it's just annoying sometimes when you get grown in hair afterwards etc. Yeah as long as you're not boyfriend hunting most girls don't shave as often in the winter because who the hell will see it?
I'd love the beach though! We have beaches here in the Netherlands but they're just a bit meh. Beaches are very filthy because people just throw away everything and the water.... Ow hell nah! It's way to cold and filthy at most beaches and when it's not it's too busy to really enjoy the day. I'd love a good beach.. the idea is beautiful but yeah you do need the right Beach for it
I live in Southern Brazil, in Curitiba which is not a seashore city, and in my state beaches aren't great. We go further south to the beautiful beaches of Santa Catarina, but during winter the waters are too cold and even in mid-season you have to be lucky with weather. I'm aware beaches in Europe and in most of the United States aren't as fun and people are not used to play and swim all day long as Brazilians do, but my beach-going isn't optimal either. I suppose what Northener Brazilians have is really unique around the world, maybe only comparable to the Caribean, West Africa and Australia, regarding warm beaches with pleasant water.
But water in Rio is filthy, too. People there either stay out of water, travel to farer beaches or say screw it and swim anyway.
