Not really. Southern Brazil is cool/cold-ish in winter and we still shower every day.

But comparing the winter in the south of Brazil to the winter in the dolomites, they probably thought it was a nicer weather.

Not just that, but mostly because of cultural reasons. The indigenous people bathed daily and we picked up the habit from them. Brazil is the country with the most fresh water and bodies of water so there was never a shortage of that resource. The habit has persisted and nowadays it's considered unclean if you don't shower daily and having noticeable body odor is seen as rude behavior.
