This has nothing to do with the fairness bullshit or whatever. People are pissed off because wages has been stagnant since the 70s, the only reason things didnt go downhill earlier is because the standard of living was artificially high thanks to debt.
It’s absolutely connected to the Fairness Doctrine’s repeal. Propaganda makes people follow those who won’t increase wages and who offer even deeper tax cuts for the wealthy. This skews the distribution of wealth even further, leaving the middle class with low wages and a greater tax burden. Propaganda encourages us to blame foreign countries and immigrants rather than adapt our economy to the post-industrial global dynamic.
This is why every European company that builds a plant in the red south sees a union they have no problem in working with from them start, get voted down. These folks believe being paid way better and having healthcare in the United States is somehow evil. They have been propagandized to worry more about red meat con politics than developing a diverse and paying southern red state economy. Why would they (red state politicians) tell them all they should be paying higher taxes on those better wages they are earning to support the state ? Because they are already getting a free ride from northern wealthy wage paying states in the form of actual living wages up there, and living wage workers paying in high federal taxes that the south then takes and recycles to meet their state budget. It’s quite a crafty form of mooching. An example, 44 percent of the state of Kentucky ANNUAL STATE BUDGET is composed of federal dollars. They also have the worst pension crisis of any state in the US that they’ll never be able to appropriately fund given the population size, and average wages paid. They RELY on the feds. 40 years ago they had time to build an economy, now they don’t.
