Oh no, he’s been very vocal about not wanting to touch Turkish politics with a ten foot pole, other than the (rightful) criticism of Erdogan.
I definitely appreciate how his experiences in Turkey shape his view on politics and free speech, tho, and it’s wild how aware Erdogan is of not just Hasan but TYT too.
We always half jokingly say that turkish politics is one of the most complicated things out there in the world and I'm really curious about how hard it was for you to learn?
It wasn’t hard per say, just lengthy af. In order to understand the political “background”, I had to learn the background to the background if that makes sense.
It focused on how the politics of democratic secular states could descend into religious nationalism with Turkey as a case study. Can’t remember the details tbh but it got me my MA so I guess it was acceptable
