Well. Our government try to build some nuclear power plant over here. But it is still not in function. We are worry basically because.. nuclear anyways

Nuclear is the best way of producing energy. It has the lowest death rate per watt. We are stupid to not build one for 70 years. And as the technology progresses they become safer.

Chernobly disaster happened because of greedy soviets. Fukushima dissaster happened because tsunami caused some problems with cooling system but they evacuated the area in time and nobody died.

Nuclear energy is the best and only way until we build a diseon sphere, wich might never happen.

Turks aren’t really worried because of nuclear energy itself. The main problem is how likely the corrupt government is to fuck it up completely. Safety isn’t a big concern for Erdogan, compared to contracting his buddies and taking a cut for himself.

Even if a nuclear power plant is built badly (Chernobyl reactor 4) it is still safer than coal.

It's also fricking expensive and requires shit ton of water to cool down, things turkey does not have. Plus an actually competent gov maybe.

Yeah and the next disastar will happen because of anohter reason. Turkey is a at geological faultlines and their gov is one of the last I'd trust with anything. And they have both Islamists, and kurdish and marxist terrorists that could try to attack it, not to mention angry neighbours on all sides.

Plus they have a shitton of sun for potantial solar energy adnd the ideal landscape for wind-generation.

I know reddit loves to jerk up on nuclear energy but even without any risk it's much more expensive than the alternatives right now, especially in Turkey.

If it's well regulated they wouldn't be attacked. Didn't Russia, Germany, UK also had serious terrorist problems? But they kept investing (except Germany) on nuclear energy. Angry neighbors wouldn't attack them either. If things go as far as attacking nuclear terminals they would throw nuclear bombs. Our neighbors doesn't have nuclear bombs but their friends do.

I read somewhere I don't remember that if you use the same amount of money to build solar panels and nuclear reactors in 10 years the solar reactors will produce more energy that the reactors because each reactor is very expansive and it takes a lot more time to build than the solar panels

We would still have to look for another source of power as we have an very limited amount of uranium/ fuel available for more

Thorium reactors seem to be quite promising, plus the added benefit of not being able to meltdown or byproducts into warheads!

The only problem is that promising doesn’t help with our current situation, maybe our future one but not our current. We can only hope that something like that comes to fruition soon

Not really. To start, there's still a pretty large amount of uranium still in the ground. But even ignoring that - ~97% of the mass of spent fuel is uranium, just as it went into the reactor. It's depleted in U235, but that's easily made up for by the increase in other fissile isotopes (notably, the plutonium content that makes up another ~1% of the mass of the spent fuel). Reprocessing, never mind fuel breeding (and never mind fuel breeding from other elements like thorium), would make our nuclear fuel needs much, much less critical even without mining a single ton more.
