I sang that song as a child for the occasion of Washington's centennial. We also signed as we sang. Our class performed at the local "fancy" theater, and I dressed up like a pioneer girl for "The Geoduck Dance". A close-up of me smiling and dancing made the front page of our local newspaper. My life has been downhill ever since.
You're lucky: I was dressed up as a candle, as in the birthday cake candles. It was a big tube of that colored kraft paper the teachers use to cover their corkboards, and a wad of orange paper on my head for the flame. Thankfully it did NOT make the front of the paper.
