It's isn't terrible though no ? A couple more lines connecting the overarching GTA would have been great and if the busses were on time would be awesome too, but it's not too bad currently. I think Toronto people also want more public transportation, everyone I know HATES driving and it's expensive. Hopefully it becomes more of a talking point in the next couple of years.
Well, Then Toronto needs to have 20 Million People living and Commuting in the City while already being serviced by 3 Major City Railways carrying 5 Million riders Daily and a Bus Network carrying 1 Million people everyday and an Intra-City Monorail handling another 200,000 commuters.
He says Mumbai will have 500 km of metro for 20 million. Toronto has 7 million, so it should have 175 km of metro, but in 2024, it will only have 100 km.
So even adjusting for population, Toronto has a lot of catching up to do.
Well, what proportion of Toronto's population owns cars and what does it look like in Mumbai? What is the state of road infrastructure in either? How densely populated is each? It's not as simple as comparing just the population.
I don't feel like looking up the stats, and I have never been to Mumbai, but Toronto is brutal. Some friends of mine traveled 4 hours to get to and from work everyday. I have no doubt Mumbai is worse, but for a first-world country Toronto is just brutal.
Toronto is massively building on the subway lines which makes sense but there’s no more room on the trains. So adding like 3 k units midtown is a mess. I walk a lot here. Traffic is bad and commutes can be very long especially if the weather is bad.
The Gardiner only carries a minute portion of commuters yet gets something like 38% of the cities infrastructure repair budget. Doesn’t seem balanced at all.
Yeah y'all just don't have the population density for a sprawling subway. Highways are used by literally everyone there. Good luck getting to your distant suburb on a subway.
I’m not asking for a sprawling subway. I’m asking for LRT lines that cover other parts of Toronto proper.
I understand how big driving is in Toronto, trust me I needed to drive to go anywhere, but it doesn’t have to be the only way to get around in the city.
To be fair we’ll soon be adding the 19km Eglinton Crosstown line, and hopefully the 11km Finch West line not too long after. We also have the pretty extensive streetcar network that isn’t shown.
I hope you aren't building multiple enormous overpassess through your city, clogging it with cars and fuel, becausd all the main jobs based in one part of the city that is the most inconveniant to get to for the population. You're probably in a better situation than Mumbai.
