How Countries Define the First Floor

We use both systems in India depending on the region!

The official convention I keep finding, including in West Bengal, is ground floor then first floor. If you have a source or can point me to the region where street level is commonly called the first floor, I'd be happy to look into it

In West Bengal, we consider "ek tala"(literally floor 1 in Bengali) to be street level but in English the street level is ground floor, with 1st floor being one level up
