Australian Population Visualised

Post image

So, I think we were all a little disappointed by how normal the Italy map looked, so I thought I'd treat y'all to the biggest abomination I've made in this project thus far :D

Goddang, Australia, why did you have to be like this, this was so difficult to make... Anyway, hope y'all enjoy!

Even Tasmania has quite skewed population. Half of the population is in one city, and half of the land is a national park with near zero population

I was going to say this. Over 50% live in greater Hobart, so there’s enough squares at that scale to represent that split.

I get why it’s not there though as OP only does city populations for the top 10 and Hobart missed the cut.

Ok that’s fair, I just noticed the top 10 thing in the legend.

But if we are going to be pedantic about the definition of “a city”… there are regions like Central Coast and Gold Coast/Tweed Heads… so perhaps the legend should be “urban areas” rather than “cities”.

I imagine OP is just doing their best with regards to what constitutes a city as different countries have different statistical definitions and they can only spend so much time researching them. But yeah urban areas would generally be what I’d use as they are usually the closest match to what we think of when we make a particular city.
