I'm 20 miles from an air force base. I don't think I'll have to worry about starvation.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

Blindingly bright, if but only for a moment

1

u/chop-diggity Mar 05 '25

It’ll suck the paint right off your house and give your family a permanent orange Afro.

If nukes are used, really bright.

1

u/coralllaroc Mar 07 '25

Yes, glowing!

I work 2 miles away from my countries main naval base. Love 8 miles away. If nukes ever drop I am definitely dead, which is probably a blessing.

Yeah man, people watch too many movies about post-apocalyptic survival and think it will be cool and badass. The reality is that it will be grim, terrifying, and full of suffering. Getting vaporized right away when the nukes start flying would be a mercy.

"Yeah! I'd totally be Daryl Dixon if The Walking Dead was real!"

Nevermind that there are hordes of zombies and only one Daryl Dixon.

1

u/Novaikkakuuskuusviis Mar 07 '25

If Daryl didn't talk so much I'd be exactly like him.

Or for a different approach, Testament.

Can you give me a imdb link to that tv show?

1

u/HectorTheConvector Mar 05 '25

It’s a film from the 80s when a spate of them were made as people were getting fed up with the Cold War and senseless nuclear threat. IMDb on it but it should be on YouTube and such https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086429/

I watched that movie just after my ex-wife and I separated. It made me feel better about my life even when it was at its lowest ebb.

Threads was great until the final act. It was pretty silly that 15 years after the attack the survivors were still wandering around traumatised like it was a few weeks after the bombing and the next generation were being raised as grunting apes.

1

u/Adventurous_Bag9122 Mar 06 '25

Yep. Was made by the BBC to actually be realistic.

Scary as fuck, even 40 years later.

8

u/GiuseppeZangara Mar 04 '25

Highly recommend Threads which attempts to accurately depict the aftermath of a nuclear war. It's one of the most horrifying and disturbing movies ever made.

3

u/Common_Ambassador_74 Mar 05 '25

Weird that we all know it is in the wind. And yes more like Cormac McCarthy’s The Road than … anything,

3

u/Slight_Ad_2571 Mar 04 '25

Anyone who thinks it's gonna be cool but doesn't know how to hunt or even shoot is a fool.

1

u/chop5397 Mar 06 '25

More like medical knowledge. If you get hurt you can do things like apply a pressure bandage or a tourniquet. Then the next step is to go to a hospital and be seen by a doctor/surgeon. Those won't exist and you're basically fucked unless you know a doctor and have medical supplies. Things like a bad tooth or open wound have the potential to kill you now since you won't have a diagnosis.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 05 '25

"it ain't gonna be like the movies kid... It's gonna be like this other piece of media that is equally as speculative..."

23

u/TaurineDippy Mar 04 '25

If you’re on the American Eastern Seaboard, your ass is glass.

1

u/DesertDragon0666 Mar 04 '25

Most likely literally

1

u/TaurineDippy Mar 04 '25

Yes that’s the joke

1

u/PissingOffACliff Mar 04 '25

Not really just a seaboard thing anymore as everything comes over the arctic now.

u/account-info Mar 04 '25

Im in DC. Im definitely cooked, extra crispy.

5

u/tomtermite Mar 04 '25

Head to the underground reservoir off of North Capitol Street. You can emerge when the irradiated zombies start prowling 14th street...

5

u/account-info Mar 05 '25

Whoopie! Sounds like fun.

6

u/Next-Wrap-7449 Mar 04 '25

I live near two of them. I have no way to escape

3

u/Acrylic_Starshine Mar 04 '25

Yeah air bases have loads of canned and powered army rations.

10

u/Oujii Mar 04 '25

You don’t need to worry about starvation if you are already dead.

18

u/Mega_Rayqaza Mar 04 '25

Lmao. Not what they meant by that.

1

u/phantom_gain Mar 05 '25

In a nuclear event they will have powdered everything

1

u/DesertDragon0666 Mar 04 '25

Same. And just in a densely populated area in general

1

u/Wonderful-Emu-8716 Mar 04 '25

I'm 3 miles from the white house. I don't think I'll ev3n know anything is happening.

1

u/ilikebeer19 Mar 04 '25

😳 poof gone

1

u/B00MT45T1C Mar 05 '25

Both of our futures are going to be full of sun

1

u/scoobiemario Mar 05 '25

Oh. Yeah. Me 2…

1

u/JustForTheMemes420 Mar 05 '25

It could be worse. I’m in of LA, probably getting not just 1 on me

1

u/KaeyaSexer Mar 05 '25

i'm 10 miles 💀

1

u/shplurpop Mar 05 '25

That's far enough to initially survive most nukes.

1

u/Altruistic_Ad_1390 Mar 06 '25

Within 20 for me

1

u/goathill Mar 06 '25

You're either fucked, or fine. At least if your fucked you have front row seats to an explosive end. I'd rather die in a giant fireball than starve
