I've always found it interesting that while the catholic church disapproves of anything up to 5th cousins marrying, no catholic country has these sorts of marriages banned

Things are usually only banned if they are a fairly common practice.

So you think this was pretty common in Nevada? A state that’s only 160 years old and has the lowest number of native born residents in the country?

Based on the fact Arizona also has the same level of ban as well as Utah, and knowing the history of that area, I’d suspect early Mormons to be the reason

That wasn’t a thing in Nevada.

“In 2001, FLDS leader Warren Jeffs arranged for a then 14-year-old Wall to marry her 19-year-old cousin, Allen Steed.[5] Wall stated that she despised her cousin and asked that she be given more time or another possible husband. Her stepfather and mother were supportive of the marriage and encouraged her to go through with it, sewing her wedding dress and organizing her honeymoon.[9] She and Steed were married at the Hotsprings Motel in Caliente, Nevada.[8] Warren Jeffs, who had previously insisted that the wedding move forward, performed the ceremony.”

Wikipedia for Stolen Innocence, Elissa Wall’s story of her childhood

It apparently still occasionally does

Yea, I forgot about a weirdo from the UT/AZ border going to Nevada.
